Manchester United's latest injury news and return dates as Michael Carrick's men travel to face Chelsea at Stamford Bridge for a tough Premier League test on Saturday evening.
Manchester United's return to football action on Monday evening did not go as many would have expected, as bitter rivals Leeds United recorded a stunning 2-1 win at Old Trafford.
It was United's first competitive fixture in 24 days, with Michael Carrick's men chasing Champions League spots, but the loss has now seen them fall to level on points with Aston Villa, with the two sides third and fourth in the Premier League table.
Next up, the club will travel to face Chelsea, also fighting for the Champions League spots, on Saturday evening. Liam Rosenior's men are in poor form, having lost four of their last five league games.
If United can get back to winning ways and snag three points at Stamford Bridge, this would put them ten points clear of the sixth-placed Blues and further cement their status for the Champions League next season.
Below is a summary of United's current injured and suspended players, and when they could return to duty.
Harry Maguire
What happened: Harry Maguire was sent off during United's 2-2 draw with Bournemouth last month and was handed a one-game ban for the denial of a goalscoring opportunity.
What was said: While there were reports that Maguire could face a further ban after being charged with improper conduct, nothing further has developed.
Expected return date: Saturday, 18 April – Chelsea (A).
Lisandro Martínez
What happened: Lisandro Martínez was sent off for violent conduct during United's loss against Leeds after he was deemed to have pulled Dominic Calvert-Lewin's hair while trying to win an aerial duel.
What was said: “It is a shocking decision, absolutely shocking," Carrick said when asked about the red card. "The red card, that is really concerning. I know he touched his hair. There is a difference to really aggressively touching it.”
Possible return date: Martínez's possible three-game ban would leave him out until United face Sunderland in May, although Carrick has hinted that the club will appeal the decision ahead of the Chelsea clash.
Kobbie Mainoo
What happened: Having started every fixture under Carrick, Kobbie Mainoo was absent from the squad that faced Leeds.
What was said: "Over the last day or so, Kobbie just had an issue in training," Carrick said on Monday. "So it seems small but big enough to keep him out tonight. It wasn't worth the risk, to be honest, so we're hoping it's pretty small."
Possible return date: Saturday, 18 April – Chelsea (A).
Diogo Dalot
What happened: Diogo Dalot missed United's training camp in Ireland due to illness and was only able to make a substitute appearance against Leeds while United were chasing the game.
What was said: While nothing has been explicitly stated about the Portugal international's fitness, Noussair Mazraoui's display on Monday was called into question.
Expected return date: Dalot may start against Chelsea, provided he has regained full fitness.
Patrick Chinazaekpere Dorgu
What happened: Patrick Dorgu has missed the last three or so months of action with a hamstring injury, but is back on grass training with individual coaches.
What was said: Carrick has been strong in stating that while Dorgu is improving in his recovery and is expected to play again this season, the club will not rush the Danish international back to duty.
Possible return date: Unknown
Matthijs de Ligt
What happened: Matthijs de Ligt has missed every game since the end of November with an unknown back problem.
What was said: “Treatment and rehab,” Carrick said last week when asked about De Ligt's workload. “The reason he didn’t come [to Ireland] is he’s not quite on the grass. Patrick came back because he’s further on, but Matta isn’t quite at this stage yet.
“So it was important for him to continue his rehab, really, and try and get him back. There’s nothing else around it.”
Possible return date: Unknown
