Struggling under Michael Carrick, the Red Devils receive a timely boost as the Ivorian winger teases his recovery alongside news of two major midfield reinforcements.
Manchester United have endured a rocky start to the 2026/27 campaign, winning just twice across their opening seven fixtures in all competitions.
The Reds started with a defeat to Hull City before responding with a 5-2 victory over Ipswich Town, with Bruno Fernandes scoring a hat-trick. United then cruised past Sabah FK with a 4-0 Champions League win, but results have quickly turned sour again.
A 2-2 draw with Everton was followed by consecutive home defeats against Manchester City and Brighton. United surrendered a two-goal lead against Brighton before ultimately losing and exiting the Carabao Cup.
Michael Carrick's side then closed out their pre-international break schedule with a 1-1 draw against Fulham. Lisandro Martínez's own goal handed Fulham the lead, but Matheus Cunha struck late to rescue a point for United.
Amad hints at impending United return
A significant blow that Carrick faced as he headed into the 2026/27 campaign was the injury to Amad. After a pre-season that saw the Ivorian playing well on the right alongside Bryan Mbeumo up front, he sustained an injury in training before the opening fixture.
Amad has not been in training since, with Roundtable revealing at the time that he was due to be out for around six weeks due to his problem, putting his return date in October, following the international break.
On Tuesday morning, Amad hinted at an update via his instagram story.
The United forward released a photo of him after United's 3-2 victory over Nottingham Forest last season, accompanied by an hourglass emoji and an exhaling emoji, suggesting his return to the pitch is imminent.
Three United returns could change Carrick's fortunes
It remains to be seen whether or not Amad will be fit to return to duty by the time United welcome Tottenham Hotspur to Old Trafford on Saturday, 10 October, although his hint suggests he may.
He will not be the only one who could return to the field next month. Carlos Baleba, the £65 million signing from Brighton, has been unable to make his debut due to an ankle injury sustained in the summer, but was named on the bench against Fulham before the break.
Although he remained unused during the 1-1 draw, his addition to the matchday squad, plus three weeks of training during the international break, will allow him to make his debut for his boyhood club, and having an engine like his in midfield will do a lot to change Carrick's fortunes.
Another player who could return next month, although his return date is less certain, is Matthijs de Ligt. The Netherlands international has not played football in 11 months due to a back injury that eventually required surgery, but has been in training since the summer.
While his reintegration into the starting XI will be much more gradual than either Amad or Baeba, given United's frailties at the back and how well De Ligt was performing before his injury last season, he could be a much-needed rock for Carrick to build on.
