Manchester United are heading into the final two weeks of the 2026 summer transfer window with plenty of business still to complete as Michael Carrick heads toward his first full season in charge of the squad.

Last campaign, the Reds finished third in the Premier League table, winning an incredible 12 of their 17 fixtures under the United boss, with many hoping for significant improvements this summer.

But, despite announcing Karl Darlow, Andrey Santos, and Youri Tielemans within a few days of each other toward the beginning of July, United's summer transfer business has seemingly grinded to a complete halt.

It is well documented that United are looking to sign a new left-back in the coming weeks before the window shuts on Tuesday, 1 September, while a new midfielder must be a priority, too.

One player who was reportedly recently offered to United was Arsenal star Myles Lewis-Skelly for £45 million. Following a lack of consistent game time last campaign, both United and Chelsea were said to be handed the chance to sign the 19-year-old.

The Arsenal Academy graduate is a very interesting player, considering his brilliant abilities both in midfield and at left-back, which would see him suit United well.

Although subsequent reports suggested that United were skeptical of the £45 million fee and believed it would cost more like £60 million to sign him, Arsenal CEO Richard Garlick has very much left the door open to his sale.

“Myles has had a fantastic end to last season, and he started this season really well, and as I say, we're always looking to retain and build on our best players,“ Garlick initially told talkSPORT.

"Obviously, there may be speculation. I'm not going to go into that from other clubs, but we're very happy with Myles and the position he's in at the club.”

But in an interview with the BBC, Garlick left the door much more open to the sale of players such as Lewis-Skelly and fellow Academy graduate Ethan Nwaneri.

“We’re not actively looking at selling those homegrown players, but if the right opportunity came up and it was right for them and right for the club, then we’d obviously consider that."

United have spent £85 million on players this summer, which is less than newly promoted clubs Ipswich Town and Coventry. The big question being asked by those around United at the moment is: Where as Manchester United's money gone?

Before the winter transfer window earlier this year, former United coach Rúben Amorim wanted to sign Antoine Semenyo from Bournemouth. The club claimed they had the funds, but once Semenyo chose Manchester City, they didn't use these funds elsewhere.

Last summer, the club reportedly confirmed they had funds to try and sign Carlos Baleba for around £65 million, although Brighton's demands were too high, and they chose not to pursue a deal.

Earlier this window, they commited a bid of £75 million plus £10 million in add-ons for Mateus Fernandes, but these funds weren't used as the midfielder chose to sign for Tottenham Hotspur instead.

There have been multiple deals in the last 12 months where United have reportedly had funds available for the signing but haven't actually spent anything. So, with two weeks to go in the window, where is the money now?
