Manchester United got back to winning ways with a huge 5-2 win over Ipswich Town on Sunday. After an embarrassing opening day defeat to Hull, it was important that Michael Carrick's side won on their return to Old Trafford, and his team did just that.

An own goal, a clever finish from Bryan Mbuemo and a third United hat-trick from Bruno Fernandes saw the Reds hit the back of the net five times. Although the first half was worrying in parts, the second calmed many nerves and put United back on track.

Ipswich opened the scoring through Leif Davis and it looked as though the Tractor Boys would head into the break a goal to the good. But, United's captain had other ideas and dragged his team back into the game.

A mistake from Marcelino Nunez, gifted United a golden opportunity. Matheus Cunha pounced on a loose touch and quickly slipped the ball into the path of Fernandes. Then, bearing down on goal, Fernandes kept his composure and fired United level with an emphatic finish. 

As the second half went on, United began to dominate more and more, and it was only a matter of time before they took the lead.

An unfortunate own goal for Ipswich put them behind, but a further two goals and one assist from Bruno Fernandes crushed the newly promoted side, in a week that saw United's Magnifico awarded the PFA Players' Player of the Year Award.

During Sky Sports' post-match coverage, former United player Ashley Young heaped lots of praise on Fernandes, describing him as "phenomenal" and the only real player who gets the club ticking.

"He [Bruno Fernandes] was fantastic," he said.

"He is the one that gets Manchester United ticking. There is a reason why he was voted player of the year by his fellow professionals and it's performances like this.

"We've seen it time and time again. He was the driving force, especially in the second half.

"The way he played was phenomenal, and he brings other players around him up to his level as well."

His first goal was a brilliant left-footed finish into the top corner, flying past the Ipswich goalkeeper. Then, his second came from the spot, as we have seen plenty of times during his United career.

Although Kjell Scherpen tried his best to put him off with his silly antics, United's captain kept his cool and gave United a third goal.

His hat-trick came seven minutes later when the ball fell kindly in his path. Keeping his composure once again, he made it look easy as he passed the ball into the bottom corner to claim his third.

It has been a huge few days for Bruno Fernandes. Last week's result against Hull was massively disappointing for everyone around United, but this past week has brought much more positivity to the club.

Fernandes is a level above everyone else, and he consistently performs to the highest standard. Today was another example of how he led the team to victory during a difficult moment.

The PFA award was completely deserved after an outstanding Premier League campaign last year, and hopefully this season can be similar.

Three goals in two games put him at the top of the goalscoring charts after two matches, and if this match is anything to go by, this could be another top-class season from the Portuguese.
