Manchester United were left disappointed after Everton snatched a 2-2 draw in the closing stages of their Premier League clash at the Hill Dickinson Stadium on Sunday. Michael Carrick made no changes to the XI that defeated Ipswich Town 5-2, and United came close to an early opener when Bruno Fernandes saw his effort crash against the crossbar.

The visitors controlled much of the first half and created the better openings, although Everton remained capable of causing problems at the other end. Neither team could make their chances count before the break, leaving the contest goalless at half-time.

United wasted little time taking the lead after the restart. Bryan Mbeumo broke forward just 53 seconds into the second half and produced a composed finish to put the visitors in front.

Everton responded with increased urgency and eventually found their reward. Tyrique George levelled the contest with a fierce strike inside the final 10 minutes, but United appeared to have restored their advantage soon afterwards. Luke Shaw's delivery found Benjamin Šeško, who made no mistake in putting his side back in front.

The result was turned on its head once again in stoppage time. Ainsley Maitland-Niles produced a stunning finish to rescue a point for Everton, denying United the victory and capping an entertaining 2-2 encounter.

Benjamin Šeško has been playing himself back up to full fitness after missing pre-season due to a shin injury he picked up against Liverpool last season, and has played a combined 53 minutes across United's opening three fixtures so far.

Against Everton, he quickly made his mark soon after coming on, with his header proving too powerful for Jordan Pickford to keep out of the Everton net.

Despite opening his account for the season, speaking to club media, the Slovenian forward admitted the overall feeling was one of disappointment after being forced to settle for a point.

“We’re very disappointed of course because we were very close [to winning] and yet so far. To concede a goal like that in the last minute, it’s painful for everyone because everyone was giving everything to try and win the game.

“Every single person here wants that. In the moments like this where a last shot decides it, it’s very painful.”

“For me, it's the best feeling when I’m scoring, especially for the club like that. When I can provide the goals and the points for the team - it’s my job at the end of the day. It’s nice to be back with the team to experience all the games again. Of course I wish today that we had won, but we can’t change that.

“It’s really important to take everything as positive even when it’s not the best option from today. To see the game in a good light, to try and improve and focus for the next game.”

Matheus Cunha has spent most of his career as a centre-forward, with the Brazilian usually playing more as a false nine than an out-and-out forward, dropping deep to link play and influence the game in different ways.

The 27-year-old has picked up two assists so far this season, but has yet to register a goal, as the Brazilian struggled to have much of an impact against Everton, being limited to just two shots, one of which was blocked.

A fully fit and firing Benjamin Šeško is vital to this Michael Carrick side, as he offers a completely different forward profile from anyone else in this United side, with his aerial prowess and physicality making him a handful for any defender he faces.

It's been seen in United's last two games that Rashford is always looking to beat his man and play the ball across goal, something that the Slovenian could greatly benefit from, and offer another string to Carrick's bow of attacking options.
