Roundtable understands that Manchester United are trying to sign Manchester City youngster David Eze.
Eze and his family were recently invited for a tour of the Carrington training complex, as United attempts to win the race for the 16-year-old's signature.
Manchester United scouts have been impressed by the attacking midfielder, with Eze being seen as one of the best talents in England.
Multiple clubs are said to be in the race for Eze's signature, but United will be hoping they have done enough to sign him.
United continue with youth recruitment
Since INEOS purchased a minority stake in Manchester United, there has been a clear emphasis on signing young talent.
Ayden Heaven, Sékou Koné, Diego Leon, and Chido Obi have all been examples so far, and Eze could be the next through the door.
Cristian Orozoco is set to join United when he turns 18 years old next month. The Colombian will likely follow a similar path to Leon last season, with most of his game time for the under-21s while he acclimatises to life in England.
As for Eze, he could follow a similar trajectory to Harley Emsden-James, who joined United from Southampton last summer.
The centre-back played for United's younger age groups for most of last term, but made the step up to the Under-18s side towards the end of the season.
United already have a wealth of young talent in the U18s group, with Noah Ajayi, JJ Gabriel and Jim Thwaites all impressing last season. Thwaites was even named on the bench against Chelsea, despite playing 120 minutes in the FA Youth Cup a day earlier.
United must continue with first-team additions
While signing David Eze would be a big boost for the youth sides, and potentially the first-team in the long run, United need to continue with more first-team additions this summer.
Éderson has reportedly agreed a deal to sign for United, although that likely will not be completed until after the World Cup, given he was a late addition to Carlo Ancelotti's Brazil side.
West Ham United's Mateus Fernandes has been heavily linked with a move to Old Trafford. Roundtable understands that club-to-club talks have begun regarding Fernandes, but interest from Real Madrid remains.
As well as midfielders, United should be targetting additions to their frontline and their defence this summer, with new recruits needed to support Senne Lammens, too.
