Joshua Zirkzee joined Manchester United in the summer of 2024 after a breakout season at Bologna, where his all-round performances helped the Italian side secure an unexpected place in the UEFA Champions League. His form attracted interest from several of Europe’s top clubs before United eventually completed a £36.5 million deal to bring the Dutch forward to Old Trafford.

Signed during Erik ten Hag’s tenure, Zirkzee arrived with a reputation as a technically gifted forward whose link-up play, movement and creativity could be just as influential as his goalscoring. His ability to drop deep, combine with teammates and contribute to a fluid attacking system had made him one of Serie A’s most highly regarded young forwards.

His first season in Manchester offered flashes of that quality, particularly towards the latter stages of the campaign, but his progress was disrupted by injury. The subsequent spell on the sidelines also affected his preparations for the following season, leaving him struggling to regain full fitness and match sharpness.

Since then, opportunities to establish himself as a regular have become increasingly limited. Benjamin Šeško has emerged as United’s first-choice striker, while Bryan Mbeumo has also been deployed through the middle when needed. As a result, Zirkzee has found it difficult to secure the consistent run of minutes required to cement his place in Michael Carrick’s side.

Having been an unused substitute in Manchester United's opening two games of the Premier League, it looks likely that the club are willing to let the 25-year-old leave the club before the transfer window slams shut.

A report from Fabrizio Romano said the Dutch striker turned down a move to Fiorentina after the Italian side offered a £4.2 million loan fee plus a £25.6 million buy option.

Now, a report from Sky Sports News Man Utd reporter Danyal Khan indicates that Zirkzee is attracting interest from at least three clubs as the Tuesday deadline approaches, with Juventus interested in signing the forward after Jonathan David completed his move to Atletico Madrid.

Like Fiorentina, Juventus are reportedly ready to offer United a season-long loan with a £25.6 million buy option.

While a return to Serie A, where Zirkzee thrived, would be a beneficial one for the 25-year-old, a move to Juventus is now unlikely.

After selling David, Juventus have agreed personal terms with Newcastle striker Nick Woltemade on loan, while Newcastle have signed promising young forward Matias Fernandez Pardo from Lille, making a move for Zirkzee likely off the table for the Italian giants.

While United's priority before the window shuts remains a left-back, made clearer after Luke Shaw's disappointing performance against Ipswich, interest in a replacement striker has seemingly cooled in recent days, so it's increasingly likely Zirkzee could be set for another season at Old Trafford.

It's evident that Benjamin Šeško needs a solid backup as a striker, although both Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo have deputised up front as the Slovenian striker slowly makes his way back to first-team football after missing pre-season due to injury.

While it may disappoint many if Zirkzee doesn't find a move away, he could be much-needed depth if injuries hit the forward line and United fails to sign appropriate back-up.
