Manchester United are gearing up for their final game of the 2026 pre-season tour as they eye a highly-charged clash against AC Milan, managed by former United boss Rúben Amorim.

Amorim was sacked from his job at United earlier this year after falling out with the Old Trafford hierarchy, with Michael Carrick replacing him before the end of the season and eventually being handed the role full-time.

During Amorim's time in charge, he fell out and banished Marcus RAshford from the squad while barely playing Kobbie Mainoo, which provides an interesting perspective on the fixture, given that both players are set to return to the pitch for the first time when United face AC Milan.

Having suffered an opening fixture loss against Wrexham, United followed this with wins over Rosenborg and Atletico Madrid, and 1-1 draws with Paris Saint-Germain and Leeds United, setting the side up well for their opening-day clash away against Hull City next Saturday.

Ahead of the Milan fixture, United have had several updates on the playesr who missed out on facing Leeds.

What happened: After featuring in all four pre-season ties before the Leeds fixture, Harry Maguire was not part of the squad in Dublin on Wednesday evening.

What's been said: It was confirmed before the game that Maguire's absence was just the centre-back being rested, with no significant issues.

Expected return date: Saturday, 15 August – AC Milan.

What happened: Mason MOunt has played well in pre-season, but missed the Leeds fixture after heading off with a foot injury in the first-half against PSG on the weekend,

What's been said: While Mount was not part of the squad against Leeds and missed the last two training sessions, his fitness is not a concern.

Expected return date: Saturday, 15 August – AC Milan.

What happened: Šeško hasn't featured in pre-season so far for United after missing the last three ties of last campaign due to an aggravated shin problem.

What's been said: The United striker was recently spotted back in full training for the Reds, with the expectation that he will play at least some minutes against AC Milan.

Expected return date: Saturday, 15 August – AC Milan.

What happened: While Mainoo, Rashford, and Lisandro Martínez rejoined the group after their World Cup exploits earlier this week, the Leeds tie was deemed too close for them to feature.

What's been said: Carrick explained after the Leeds game that all three players were training well, and that they will be involved against AC Milan.

Expected return date: Saturday, 15 August – AC Milan.

What happened: Matthijs de Ligt played United's first 13 league fixtures last season and was brilliant, but a back injury ruled him out of the remainder of the campaign. He then underwent back surgery at the end of the season.

What's been said: Since then, United announced that the Netherlands international was involved in the opening parts of some training sessions in Ireland, although he is not expected back any time soon.
