Michael Carrick’s struggling squad eyes vital reinforcements as Fabrizio Romano reveals the Red Devils possess the remaining funds necessary to fix glaring roster gaps this winter.

Man Utd vs Atletico Madrid PREVIEW!More Videos

To say it's been a rough time at Old Trafford this season so far would be an understatement, with the Reds still yet to record their second win of the Premier League season, following Solanke's late equaliser on Saturday, plunging Michael Carrick into even deeper trouble following his side's torrid start to the season.

Although a large number of the issues Manchester United have faced this season can be attributed to the fault of the manager and players, many of the challenges the Reds have faced have also largely come down to the lack of investment in the squad that took place over the Summer.

Following a Summer transfer window, which saw United neglect the signing of a new left-back, further leaving Luke Shaw as the only senior player in the position at the club, the Englishman has since returned to his old ways after what was his first injury-free season in memory last year, with him once again being unavailable for Atletico Madrid, after already having missed selection for the Manchester Derby this season alone.

United Set To 'Attack The January Window'

Despite the club claiming to be confident going into the season with what they have, reports are now beginning to suggest that this may no longer be the case, with Manchester United looking as though they could be set for a busy window, with reinforcements desperately needed.

According to reports from Fabrizio Romano, United could look to 'attack' the January window with multiple arrivals said to be possible, but only under certain circumstances.

When questioned whether there is any potential for United to spend this January on his YouTube Channel, Romano responded by saying:

“My answer is yes in the sense that if this will remain a situation in terms of results and if the right players appear available on the market."

“Manchester United had some money already in August to do more apart from the three midfielders they signed to do something more."

“The left back for example, not crazy money but still money to do something.

“So Man United believe if the right opportunities are still there in terms of players and if the form will remain poor, Man Utd will still be keen on signing players."

Romano went on to tell fans to 'keep an eye' out, but once again stated that talk of any potential moves would rest on form, and if the right options are available.

Can Carrick Provide The Fix Before It Is To Late?

With the January transfer window still a long way off, and Manchester United yet to receive any solid links to potential targets, Michael Carrick will need to get their ideas in sooner rather than later, before the season slips further away from them.

A lot has been made of United's lack of intensity in the opening quarter of the season so far, with the Reds being outrun in every match so far, bar their clash with Manchester City at Old Trafford, where they faced ten men for the large majority of the game, and it is something that can not continue if United are to salvage the season.

Obviously, tactical tweaks will be required to help improve fortunes, with the team often looking out of ideas when on the attack, but the players also need to look at themselves in this situation, as ultimately the fate of Michael Carrick's position as head coach could soon rest heavily on their shoulders, and if the past is anything to go by, it's often a weight the squad cannot withstand for very long.
