While Manchester United were expected to be very busy this summer, business has slowed slightly after the quickfire double signing of Youri Tielemans and Andrey Santos to address the club's severe lack of midfield depth.

The club are said to still be monitoring the midfield market for their third signing, with AS Roma's Manu Koné seemingly being the club's preferred option to complete their midfield rebuild.

To help fund their summer business, the club have also been active in departures, but only Rasmus Højlund has been sold for a substantial fee, with Napoli's qualification for the Champions League triggering a £38 million obligation to buy, adding to the initial £5.1 million loan fee.

Both Jadon Sancho and Tyrell Malacia find themselves without a club after the conclusion of their United contracts, while Casemiro announced his departure from the club towards the end of last season, joining MLS side Inter Miami. 21-year-old Tyler Fredricson has also left United, joining Lausanne-Sport, also owned by INEOS, for an undisclosed fee, with the deal understood to include a high-percentage sell-on and buyback clause.

After Senne Lammens firmly established himself as United's No.1 last season, the futures of both André Onana and Altay Bayındır have been unclear, especially after United signed Leeds goalkeeper Karl Darlow, as well as having Tom Heaton at the club.

Despite claiming he wanted to fight for a starting spot at Old Trafford, Onana joined Trabzonspor on loan for the duration of the 2026/27 season. With Darlow expected to be the club's No.2 after impressing for Leeds last season, the Turkish goalkeeper's future at United has remained uncertain.

However, a report by Metropolitano has indicated that Celta Vigo are on the verge of signing the 28-year-old on loan from United, with the deal reportedly almost complete.

The outlet also states that the La Liga club hopes to announce the signing next week, with a separate report from AS claiming that the keeper is expected to undergo a medical to become a Celta Vigo player on either Sunday or Monday.

It's clear that Bayındır, signing in 2023 for £4.3 million, was never cut out to be United's No.1, so it's only natural that the club would look to move him on after such an impressive debut season from Lammens.

However, with the loan deal that United are reported to be finalising, the club are set to make yet another loss on a player. While the goalkeeper's contract expires next summer, the club have an option to extend it by a further year, which could be used to recoup some of the fee paid for him, but, as reported by AS, there is very little chance of United receiving a fee from Celta.

Furthermore, if he were to join them permanently, Bayındır would have to significantly reduce his wages, which are reportedly around £35,000.

This is yet another example of United's notoriously poor record of selling players, a direct result of poor recruitment, with the club massively overpaying for players who simply weren't worth it, as seen with Antony and Jadon Sancho.

That, as well as paying these players very high wages, makes it almost impossible to offload them and recoup a decent fee if or when the club decides to move said player on.
