While a registration battle looms over wonderkid JJ Gabriel, Carrington chiefs are fast-tracking physical forward Noah Ajayi to become the club’s next high-profile homegrown attacking star.
With JJ Gabriel's Man Utd future a doubt, which other Academy prospects could feature this season?More Videos
The news of JJ Gabriel's decision to request cancellation of his youth registration would have sent shockwaves through the Manchester United fanbase, as the highly rated talent was touted as one of the most exciting prospects to emerge from Carrington.
The 15-year-old has attracted huge attention during his rise through the academy, scoring 23 goals in 23 games in the U18 Premier League, and is expected to make his first-team debut this season.
Reports indicated that the 2025-26 U18 Premier League Player of the Season was expected to be included in United's matchday squad for their Carabao Cup match against Brighton, and would have become the club's youngest-ever player had he featured.
Instead, his decision to request cancellation of his registration meant he was excluded from the squad, and his Manchester United career is now in serious doubt.
Man Utd believe they already have Gabriel replacement
Reports indicate the club was very surprised by this decision, which seemed to come out of nowhere, but it still believes it can convince the wonderkid to stay.
The 15-year-old isn't short on suitors, with European giants such as Real Madrid, Barcelona, and PSG reportedly monitoring the situation should Gabriel become available.
However, as reported by the Manchester Evening News, Manchester United believe they already have another top gem in the academy: Noah Ajayi, who could be the next big thing at the club.
Unlike Gabriel, Ajayi has already signed a long-term professional contract with the club, and the outlet reports that club officials believe the 17-year-old has the tools to become an excellent forward.
Standing at 6'2, Ajayi's best trait is his dribbling from his preferred position on the left wing, with his striking and on-the-ball abilities earning him comparisons to Marcus Rashford.
JJ Gabriel resolution expected imminently
Manchester United denied JJ Gabriel's request to cancel his registration, and he remains a Manchester United player because Premier League rules require the club, player, and their parent or carer to agree to the cancellation for it to be valid.
Becuase he is not yet 16, he can't be signed up to a scholarship or pro deal, but with the forward turning 16 on the sixth of October, he could then get his wish to leave Manchester United and join a European giant.
Owing to the fact he holds a European passport, he could sign for a club on the continent thanks to a loophole which could see United be powerless to do anything to keep him at the club.
As reported by The Sun, the club have weighed up taking regulatory and even legal action against anyone who may broker the talented youngster's departure.
