Manchester United’s summer transfer business was always expected to be substantial, with the club needing to add depth and quality to the squad ahead of a demanding 2026/27 campaign. With both Premier League and Champions League commitments on the horizon, Michael Carrick has been keen to build a team capable of competing on multiple fronts.

Midfield has been a particular priority. United have already secured Andrey Santos and Youri Tielemans in deals worth a combined £85 million, significantly strengthening their midfield options. Carlos Baleba is also set to become the latest addition, with the £70 million transfer nearing completion after the Cameroon international successfully underwent his medical.

While United have invested heavily, the club has also worked to trim the squad and reduce its wage commitments. Jadon Sancho and Casemiro have both moved on from Old Trafford, while Rasmus Højlund has joined Napoli in a £43 million deal following the Italian club’s return to the Champions League.

United have also made changes between the posts. Goalkeeper Radek Vitek, regarded as one of the club’s more promising young players, has completed a move to Middlesbrough. The transfer could eventually reach £14 million depending on add-ons, while United have retained a 35% sell-on clause and a buy-back option. That gives the club some protection should Vitek develop into the goalkeeper many expect him to become.

According to CaughtOffside, Rúben Amorim, who has been a long-term admirer of Noussair Mazraoui, is keen to bring the Moroccan star to AC Milan this summer.

The outlet reports that Milan are considering Mazraoui as they assess defensive options ahead of the transfer deadline, though the situation has fluctuated throughout the summer.

The report indicates that the 28-year-old switched representatives during the transfer window, often a sign the player is looking to leave their club, but United are under no pressure to sell the right-back.

Mazraoui's contract runs until 2028, giving United a very strong negotiating position. United have no need to accept a bargain offer for their highly versatile defender, and any sale should come at a price high enough for the club to sign an appropriate replacement.

Noussair Mazraoui enjoyed a very good World Cup campaign representing Morocco, operating as a defensive left-back which allowed right-back Achraf Hakimi to venture further forward and contribute to the attack.

The 28-year-old's tactical flexibility to play across United's backline should be a clear enough indicator to the club that he cannot afford to be sold this summer.

With Luke Shaw the only senior left-back currently at the club, Mazraoui would be able to slot in seamlessly to plug that gap, and considering United's fixture congestion this season, the Moroccan could prove to be a major cog in Carrick's side.

While at AC Milan he could be given a clearer role and more regular game time, United need to be selfish with their player, as, although he may not be a guaranteed starter, he is exactly the type of player Carrick would love to keep at the club this season.
