A disastrous home defeat to Bournemouth leaves Michael Carrick searching for answers after benching Bruno Fernandes and watching a makeshift midfield crumble under pressure at Old Trafford.

Michael Carrick dropped Bruno Fernandes from the starting XI as Manchester United hosted Bournemouth at Old Trafford on Sunday afternoon.

The Premier League tie started with Bournemouth sitting deep in the middle of the park, allowing United to play out wide, although neither side had any significant chances in the first 20 minutes.

As the game continued, United grew into it, but they couldn't seem to create a clear chance. With 38 minutes on the clock, a fantastic cross from Justin Kluivert found Rayan, who finished in style to open the scoring.

Minutes later, Yoro lost his footing in the rain, allowing Adrien Truffert to pounce, and Marcus Tavernier tapped home from close range to put the visitors 2-0 up after 45 minutes.

In the second half, United failed to impress, and with 20 minutes to play, Senne Lammens came flying out of goal but mistimed his challenge on Evanilson outside the area, with the Brazilian finishing in brilliant style.

Despite some substitutions from Carrick, notably not Fernandes, United failed to penetrate, losing 3-0 on what was another dark day at Old Trafford.

United player ratings vs Bournemouth so far

Senne Lammens – 3/10

Some early good punches and catches, but distribution was below expected levels. Couldn't do much for the first two goals conceded, but his horrid error for the third cannot be overlooked.

Leny Yoro – 5/10

Involved early on with some major clearances. Unfortunately, he had a horrid slip just before half-time, leading to Bournemouth's second goal.

Harry Maguire – 3/10

Captain for the day, was strong when dealing with crosses, but was absoluetly abysaml leaving the ball for Lammens for Bournemouth's third.

Ayden Heaven – 3/10

A poor game in a pressure cooker.

Diogo Dalot – 3/10

Had a lot of the ball on the left, but in attack, his final decisions were rash.

Carlos Baleba – 6/10

Dealt with a lot of bodies in the middle of the park, looked comfortable.

Andrey Santos – 4/10

Early yellow card looked lost throughout the 90 minutes.

Youri TIelemans – 2/10

Poor performance so far. Tasked as the side's chief creator during Fernandes' absence, Tielemans' passes were wayward and sloppy, causing endless issues for Carrick. Hooked at half-time, he cannot play further forward again.

Mason Mount – 2/10

Played on the left wing and didn't do too much wrong, but generally not too inspiring with the ball, either.

Bryan Mbeumo – 6/10

At least he tried, fashioned chances where he could.

Amad – 5/10

United's hardest working player, but looked isolated. Not much can be done when there's no connect between midfield and attack.

Substitutes

Matheus Cunha – 3/10

Lisandro Martínez – 5/10

Joshua Zirkzee – /10

Shea Lacey – /10
