Manchester United are gearing up the squad for next season's Premier League and Champions League campaigns.

The first domino to fall was the confirmed departure of Rasmus Hojlund, as his loan deal with Napoli triggered the obligation-to-buy clause. Andre Onana has also followed suit and returned to Trabzonspor for another season-long-loan. 

Andrey Santos and Youri Tielemans were officially announced earlier this week, as they arrived for a combined fee of £83 million. Goalkeeper Karl Darlow was also announced - he arrived for free after leaving Leeds United at the end of last term. 

This leaves keeper Radek Vítek in a predicament. The 22-year-old has impressed during his loan spell at Bristol City and is now in search of consistent minutes.

The Czechia shotstopper has yet to make an appearance for the Reds' first team; he's spent the past seasons on loan at Accrington Stanley, BW Linz, and Bristol City.

Vítek has become a fan-favourite amongst the Robins faithful, helping them secure a midtable finish, but will likely move to a top-tier club this summer.

Football Insider has reported that the 22-year-old has expressed his desire to leave United on a permanent transfer this summer, as his pathway into the first team has likely been blocked by the recent signings of Senne Lammens and Darlow.

With 41 appearances and 12 clean sheets for Bristol City last season, Martin O'Neill's Celtic have made Vítek a priority for the goalkeeper position, as they look to replace the ageing Kasper Schmeichel.

Celtic have previously relied on backup goalkeeper Vinjami Sinisalo. The Finn saw out the remainder of the Scottish Premier League season, in which Celtic won the league on the last day against Hearts.

Vítek's departure looks imminent, and United will demand a substantial fee as his contract expires in 2028.

However, Vitek could be in line to start against Wrexham this weekend. United face the Championship side in their opening game of pre-season, and Senne Lammens will be unavailable due to his World Cup campaign. 

United have invested in a new long-term backup goalkeeper due to the high velocity of games that will be played in the 2026/27 season, due to the Reds' return to the Champions League, and a push to make it further in both domestic cups.

Northampton-born Darlow arrives on a free transfer from Leeds due to the expiration of his contract.

The 35-year-old has represented Wales on 15 occasions and is entering his 17th season of professional football.

The new signing was Leeds' No.1 for the majority of last season, making 24 appearances for the club.
