Manchester United Women have turned a corner under Eva Olid, but are being held back from reaching their full potential.
Manchester United Women enjoyed a good October, as Eva OIid turned round a difficult start to life at the Progress with Unity Stadium.
The former Hearts manager failed to win any of her opening four matches, with three defeats in a row to start her new job, but a 1-1 draw with Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium appears to have changed her fortunes.
The Red Devils are unbeaten in their last 10 games, including a 10-1 win against Sheffield United, a 5-3 win against Liverpool, and a 1-1 draw with Manchester City.
Last time out saw United make the short trip to Goodison Park to face Everton, but the game kicked off at 12:45 GMT, just 15 minutes after the men's team kicked off against Chelsea. And that is not the first time this has happened.
Man Utd Women & Men regularly clash
Last weekend, Michael Carrick's side were well beaten by AFC Bournemouth at 14:00 on Sunday afternoon, while the women kicked off at 18:00 against Manchester City.
The men's team played at Old Trafford, with the women at the Progress with Unity Stadium, so fans would have been able to make both start times if they managed to avoid traffic, but that is certainly not a given in Greater Manchester.
On Wednesday, 21 October, both sides kicked off within the space of one hour; Como in the Champions League, and Liverpool in the League Cup.
Sunday 18 October saw Manchester United Women and Men both start at 14:00 BST – games that took place in the Women's Super League and Premier League, respectively.
The scheduling issues are making it almost impossible for fans to support both teams, but this is more of an issue for Manchester United than it is for most other clubs.
Man Utd Women are being held back
Manchester United Women were refounded in May 2013, after the women's side was disbanded in 2005 – in time with the Glazer family takeover.
They now face the difficult task of rebuilding a fan base if they want to return to the top of women's football, though that is impossible if fans of the men's team aren't given the chance to watch both games.
Old Trafford appears to be on its way out, meaning fans are less likely to give up one match, especially if they have a season ticket, to go and watch the women's side.
Manchester United Women sit fourth in the WSL, but they won't be able to break into the top three again without the support they need, and they won't get that until the schedule allows.
