Sekou Kone joined Manchester United two years ago, and so far, it is very fair to say that the move is yet to amount to anything worthy of note.

Kone is yet to make his first senior appearance for United; he has spent his first years at Carrington playing in the academy, along with multiple appearances in first-team training sessions.

After impressing the Red Devils in the 2023 Under-17 World Cup, Kone earned a move to Manchester; although he has not made his mark just yet, there is clearly a reason that United were so desperate to sign him.

Kone was loaned out last January to Lausanne-Sport, where he featured in just five matches after picking up a muscular injury in his first-ever start in his senior career.

However, after promising signs, Lausanne agreed to another loan this season, where Kone has started the season off in great fashion.

Kone's Lausanne-Sport are unbeaten in their first three games, including a 1-0 victory over Basel and a 2-2 draw with Young Boys.

Kone came off the bench in the first two games and earned a spot in the starting eleven against Young Boys.

He played 83 minutes of the match and played a crucial role in Lausanne's fight back from 2-0 down and also registered his first professional assist.

According to the People's Person, Kone displayed silky touches in the midfield and was solid defensively; he also racked up two key passes in the game.

However, a key flaw in his game was the accuracy of his passing, as he came away with a pass completion of just 61%, which is pretty poor on the face, but taking risks and trying to make something happen always comes with a cost.

Sekou Kone still has a long way to go to get to the standard of a Manchester United midfielder, especially after the acquisitions of Youri Tielemans and Andrey Santos to bolster the middle of the park, but he continues to show promising signs and gradual progression.

It is already going to be a real challenge for Sekou Kone to become a mainstay in the first team in the near future; therefore, Manchester United signing another midfielder would have a huge knock-on effect on him.

For a while now, United have been linked with a move for Aurelien Tchouameni, who has been seen as the 'big money' midfield signing; however, with Rodri edging closer to Barcelona than Real Madrid, it is looking like Real will keep hold of the Frenchman.

Another huge factor is the recent performances of Mason Mount. He finished last season with a few short cameos that caught people's attention, and this pre-season he has looked in his best form since signing for the club.

However, Mason Mount continues to be Mr Unreliable as he picked up yet another knock against PSG yesterday, which could force the club into another signing.

Manchester United still have to resolve other issues, such as a new left-back now that Patrick Dorgu has transitioned into a winger, and the Rashford stay-or-go situation.

It is going to be a vital year for Sekou Kone, and United fans must keep an eye on him this season as he hopefully tackles his first full professional season.
