Manchester United have had a mixed start to the new campaign, with a win and a defeat against two newly promoted sides.

An opening day loss at Hull City was soon followed by a commanding 5-2 victory at Old Trafford against Ipswich Town, where Bruno Fernandes scored a hat-trick.

The Reds are now looking ahead to their next test against David Moyes' Everton, who have had an underwhelming summer transfer window.

Despite this, the Toffees have started the season in solid fashion with a win over Crystal Palace and a draw against Bournemouth.

Michael Carrick will be debating whether to keep his side the same or make any adjustments, and some fans are calling for one player to start.

Benjamin Sesko has come off the bench in both of the opening two games for Manchester United after missing out on pre-season fixtures due to injury.

The Slovenian impressed in his debut campaign at Old Trafford and looked threatening upfront under Carrick during the second half of the season.

Supporters are awaiting Sesko's return to the starting lineup as United do not have a natural replacement for him. Joshua Zirkzee is out of favour, so Matheus Cunha or Bryan Mbeumo are being used through the middle.

However, speaking about the former RB Leipzig man on Friday afternoon, Carrick has explained why he is being 'patient' with the forward.

"Ben is improving his fitness all the time. He had some time off which was important to make sure it was right moving forward and no setbacks, you can never guarantee that but give him a chance to be fit," stated Carrick.

"He made big strides last season; he’s still young, still adapting to a point, learning, and developing his game. Loads more to come from Ben. 

"It’s just being patient, looking after him and letting him grow into the season."

Sesko's presence for United in attack changes the dynamic for Carrick's side and that is why fans are looking forward to seeing him back in the team.

But the Slovenian proved last season that he can make a significant impact off the bench, with him scoring several important goals after being substituted in the second half of games.

Carrick is likely hoping that trend can continue this season until Sesko is ready to start consistently, and with the Reds playing in Europe again this season, it will likely be sooner rather than later.

Manchester United face Sabah FK on Thursday, 10 September, in the first Champions League tie of the campaign. Their next European tie is just after the international break against Atletico Madrid away from home. 

The striker himself will be eager to improve on his start to life at the club and keep helping the team win games and score goals.
