Man Utd vs Roma is a HUGE game for Michael Carrick!More Videos

Things are continuing to go from bad to worse for Manchester United, with Michael Carrick's side set to host AS Roma at Old Trafford on Tuesday night in the Champions League.

The Red Devils have endured a disastrous campaign so far, sitting 17th in the Premier League standings while falling even further behind in Europe, where they currently occupy 20th place in the league phase.

United's only victory in recent weeks came against Sabah FK, before consecutive defeats to Atletico Madrid and Como. Meanwhile, Roma will travel to Old Trafford in confident spirits, having yet to suffer a defeat in Serie A this season.

Carrick's men have now gone nine matches without a win, drawing three and losing six since their triumph over Sabah.

The United hierarchy are reportedly still willing to give Carrick time to turn the club's fortunes around, but the international break could offer an opportunity to appoint a new manager.

Eddie Howe is said to be the frontrunner should the club decide to part ways with the current head coach.

Carrick could finally turn to youth

There has been a lot of debate surrounding who is in United's best starting XI, with multiple senior players, such as Lisandro Martínez and Bruno Fernandes, being slammed for poor performances this campaign.

Senne Lammens is almost certain to remain in goal for the AS Roma tie, but Martínez and Harry Maguire, Carrick's preferred centre-back pairing, could find themselves dropped for the upcoming fixture.

With Roma having been involved in training this week, this is a perfect chance for young left-back Harry Amass to secure his first start of the campaign for the senior side, allowing Diogo Dalot to shift back to right-back.

Leny Yoro is back from suspension after missing the Como fixture and could partner Matthijs de Ligt, who is continuing his return to full action after playing his first fixture in almost a year, when United fell to Como two weeks ago.

Kobbie Mainoo joined Michael Carrick for his pre-match press conference on Monday afternoon, suggesting he will start and could be paired with new signing Carlos Baleba for the first time.

Captain Fernandes, despite poor performances, is expected to remain in the side, as he can still produce a moment of magic even when playing below his usual high standards.

Although Amad was spotted training on Monday morning, he came off in the second half against Chelsea with an injury, putting him in doubt for the start of the tie. With United having limited options in attack, young winger Shea LAcet could start.

Bryan Mbeumo has been one of United's better players so far this season and is expected to remain the talisman through the middle, while Marcus Rashford's continued absence will almost certainly see Matheus Cunha start on the left.

United predicted XI vs Roma: Lammens, Dalot, De Ligt, Yoro, Amass, Baleba, Mainoo, Fernandes, Lacey, Mbeumo, Cunha.
