Mason Mount has recently returned from injury for Manchester United and Michael Carrick has outlined how one strength will help him at Old Trafford going forward.
Michael Carrick has taken charge of 10 games so far during his second spell as Manchester United manager and the next clash comes against Leeds.
Mason Mount has been out of action for the majority of that period, however. The midfielder has made just two appearances off the bench since the ex-midfielder took over.
Ruben Amorim saw Mount as an important player and fans have wondered what Carrick makes of the English star.
With Mount now fully fit, he will be hoping to get more minutes in the team before the end of the season.
Carrick: Mount's versatility is a big strength
Carrick spoke to the media on Saturday afternoon ahead of United's next game against Leeds and was asked about Mount.
He explained how the midfielder's ability to operate in different roles is a 'big strength' of his and that he 'really likes' Mount as a player.
"First of all, it's great to have Mason back, to miss him so quickly after we came in and came together," stated Carrick.
"He's obviously had nearly two or three weeks of building up and finding, his rhythm, finding his sharpness. It's great to have him back.
"I think his versatility, is a big strength of his. He can play through the middle, he can play midfield, he can play wide and he can do so many different roles. He's certainly a team player, but he's a player that I really like.
"There's loads to come from him. We've just got to give him the time to get fit again and be patient with that, but he's certainly in a good place right now."
Will Mount be at United next season?
Mount's injury troubles have defined his career at Old Trafford and it doesn't feel like he has a lot of time to turn things around.
The ex-Chelsea star is one of the highest-paid players at the club and it would not be surprising if he was sold in the summer window.
But it feels unlikely that any clubs will sign the midfielder and match his wages. Mount's deal at United does not expire until the summer of 2028.
He is a player who will likely remain at United for next season and it feels like that campaign will be his final chance to change how he is perceived at Old Trafford.
