Manchester United's fourth pre-season friendly ended in a 1-1 draw against the current European champions, PSG, in an encouraging performance for Michael Carrick's side.

Despite going a goal down in the opening two minutes, United were the better side throughout the game, having seven shots on goal to PSG's three and three times as many touches in the opposition penalty box.

After returning from their World Cup break, Diogo Dalot, Noussair Mazraoui, and captain Bruno Fernandes made their first appearances of the pre-season, with Youri Tielemans also handed his United debut.

Manchester United now face a quick turnaround, as they face Leeds in Dublin on the 12th of August, as Carrick's side gear up for the start of the Premier League in just under two weeks' time.

With England finishing third at the World Cup, players such as Kobbie Mainoo and Marcus Rashford have yet to feature in pre-season due to the mandatory three-week break after the tournament.

With that break over, they will now be expected to rejoin the squad and begin their pre-season preparations. Despite being at somewhat of a career crossroads, Michael Carrick has confirmed that Rashford will meet up with his United team-mates at a training camp in Ireland next week.

Speaking to Scandinavian broadcaster VG following the draw against PSG, he said, "We have a full squad next week in Dublin.

  "We fly straight there and meet Leeds on Wednesday. We have a few days in Dublin where we have the whole squad, including Marcus, Kobbie [Mainoo] and Lisandro [Martinez]."  

Carrick, who was once Rashford's teammate at United, also said, "I've played with him. I played in the game he made his debut, so we have a history."

Throughout the summer, Rashford's long-term future at Manchester United has looked uncertain after Barcelona opted against triggering the £26 million option to make his loan spell permanent, a move many thought was surprising after he had impressed in Catalonia.

Previous reports indicated that Michael Carrick wasn't against reintegrating the Englishman into the squad, and that now looks set to be the case, as he would add good left-wing depth and could also deputise as a striker to offer Benjamin Šeško some backup and competition.

It's unlikely that he will feature against Leeds as he gets back to match fitness, but in an ironic twist of fate, he could make his first United appearance for over 18 months against AC Milan, managed by Rúben Amorim.

In December 2024, the 28-year-old was frozen out by Amorim after claiming Rashford wasn't giving his maximum to the club, and was then loaned to Aston Villa for the remainder of the season.
