Radek Vitek demands guaranteed playing time upon return, stating he won't tolerate a bench role as Manchester United faces a crucial goalkeeping decision.

Senne Lammens has been nothing short of a revelation in goal since he joined Manchester United at the beginning of September 2025.

Initially, the 23-year-old Belgian spent a month getting used to his new surroundings in Manchester, but once he made his debut in a 2-0 win over Sunderland, he has not looked back since.

However, a similar story is developing in the Championship with United loanee Radek Vitek. The 22-year-old has had a stellar season despite the West Country club sitting 16th in the league table.

With United set to part ways with Altay Bayındır this summer, the club will need a new second goalkeeper to compete with Lammens, and some have proposed that Vitek and the Belgian should compete for the spot next summer.

Vitek speaks on returning to United

Once his season-long loan ends, the Czech shot-stopper will return to Carrington as a much more mature and experienced goalkeeper, and the club will have to make a big decision regarding what they plan to do with Vitek.

However, speaking to BBC Sport, Vitek has already made it clear that he wants to play as many games as possible and sitting on the bench would be a huge waste of time, setting somewhat of an ultimatum regarding his Old Trafford future..

"At the moment, I'm focusing on being as strong as possible for Bristol City with eight games to play," he said.

"I want to give my best for the club and build my platform towards next season. Then I will communicate with Manchester United closely, and we will see what's going to be best for me next season.

"But I want to play football. I don't want to just be somewhere sitting on the bench."

While United may want to keep Lammens and Vitek in their ranks amid the return to European football next season, it will be hard to convince either that their best interests lie in competing for a spot.

United should not fix what ain't broke

The age-old adage of "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" applies very much to United's goalkeeping situation. After years of turbulence with David de Gea, André Onana, and Bayındır, it's hard to understand why United would try to disrupt Lammens' calmness.

United have many priorities in the summer window, with midfield, left-back, and left-wing all areas likely to feature new recruits. Although Vitek is no doubt a talented player, it may be better to cash in on the investment.

Over the years, United have watched the likes of Manchester City and Chelsea record incredibly high fees for their Academy players, choosing to bite the bullet when it becomes clear that the youngster may find it tough to break into the squad.

For Vitek, considering his clear attributes as a tall, strong, and competent goalkeeper, he could be a very valuable acquisition this summer, and if United can continue with Lammens and secure a great fee for Vitek, this can head into the summer budget.
