Senne Lammens has been a breath of fresh air in between the sticks for Manchester United since his move from Belgium in 2025.

Altay Bayindir and Andre Onana both struggled to live up to expectations at Old Trafford, but Lammens has grabbed the opportunity with both hands and could be the starting shotstopper for years to come.

His form for Michael Carrick's side earned him an opportunity for Belgium at the World Cup, although his mistake from the bench saw his country exit the competition in the quarter-final.

With Thibaut Courtois still battling injury issues, Lammens has been selected for the international games in September and October, and impressed once again.

The 24-year-old kept a clean sheet in a 2-0 win against Italy and made five saves in a 1-0 loss to France, with Michael Olise netting the winner in the 88th minute.

Lammens speaks on Man Utd pressure after Belgium performance

Lammens is also expected to start against Turkey on Friday evening and has spoken about the pressure of playing instead of Courtois.

"We haven’t talked about it [Courtois] much. I think it is important to focus on the current matches and the players who are here. I think I am the number 1 now. It is important that I perform well and am ready immediately. I cannot control what the future holds. But I can control my performances," he told Het Belang van Limburg.

The Manchester United goalkeeper also spoke about the pressure on him at club level – starting for a team the size of the Red Devils.

"Playing for United hasn’t changed my character," he said. "You do have to be mentally strong and have self-confidence in the face of all those people expressing their opinions. I can imagine that isn’t easy for everyone.

"I love playing all those Premier League matches. Premier League, Nations League… It doesn’t feel any different."

While he was rested against Brighton in the Carabao Cup, Lammens will likely start in all of Manchester United's tough October run. Michael Carrick's side face Tottenham Hotspur, Atletico Madrid, Leeds United, Como, AFC Bournemouth and Chelsea before November.

Lammens is exactly what Man Utd need

For all too long, Manchester United has been a club about regular turnover and players who cannot handle the pressure. But Lammens is anything but that.

Even with some mistakes this season, Lammens has continued to impress and play a key role behind a leaky backline.

He has not been helped by the defence in front of him, but Lammens is continuing to prove his worth.

Michael Carrick is seemingly coming under pressure for his side's five points from five games in the Premier League this term, but if players like Lammens continue to deliver and impress, Carrick has a real chance of still being in charge this time next season.

With Champions League games coming thick and fast, Lammens will become increasingly crucial to Manchester United's form and their hope for another season of European football in 2027/28.
