Discover why Manchester United have opted against taking Benjamin Šeško as Michael Carrick's men travel to Helsinki, Finland, to face Wrexham in their first pre-season friendly of the summer.
Manchester United will begin their 2026 pre-season tour on Saturday afternoon when they take on Championship side Wrexham at the Helsingin Olympiastadion in Helsinki, Finland.
Following a third-place finish in the previous Premier League season, United appointed their former midfielder as head coach after he guided the team to 12 victories in 17 matches during his spell as interim manager in the second half of the campaign.
The club will be without several of their biggest names for the opening stages of pre-season due to the World Cup, with players such as Kobbie Mainoo and Lisandro Martínez still in the United States preparing for the tournament’s closing fixtures.
Meanwhile, Bruno Fernandes and Senne Lammens have recently been eliminated from the competition and will be granted around three weeks of rest and recovery before returning to training later this month.
Several important first-team players, including Bryan Mbeumo and Harry Maguire, along with new arrival Andrey Santos, have already resumed preparations after returning to training last week as the club began their pre-season programme.
United announce travelling squad vs Wrexham
United's squad against Wrexham is understandably depleted due to the number of first-team player who took part in the World Cup, although some strong faces still appear with the Reds.
Carrick has taken the likes of Mbeumo and Maguire, while new signings Santos and Darlow are both travelling with their new teammates for the first team.
It's also interesting to note that Benjamin Šeško has not been taken as he continues to recover from a shin injury suffered toward the back end of last campaign.
At the same time, new goalkeeper signing Karl Darlow will stay behind has he in the final stages of recovering from a procedure that he had at the end of last season.
The United boss has also included young stars Shea Lacey and Harry Amass, among others, who will all be looking to make a good impression across the next few weeks to increase their chances of regular minutes with the first team in the coming campaign.
The full United travelling squad list can be found below.

Why Gabriel is not in United's squad
One player who will not feature against Wrexham, despite excitement, is talented 15-year-old JJ Gabriel, who ended up as top scorer of the U18s Premier League last season.
Gabriel is widely touted to be one of the most talented young players across Britain, and will be involved in much of United's first-team preparations.
However, according to information supplied by Gabriel's father, the young forward will not be involved against Wrexham as he gears up for what could be a debut season in senior football.
It is stated that Gabriel joined the first-team group for training today but has beeng granted an extended break following a hard-working season last campaign. It's expected that he will feature in later matches as the season draws closer.
