The Key Match Incident's Panel (KMI) of the Premier League agreed with the referee and VAR's decision not to award Amad Diallo a penalty during the 2-2 draw at the Vitality Stadium, despite many people believing otherwise.
Despite Manchester United's poor record against Bournemouth recently, winning just one of the last six matches between the two sides, the Red Devils walked away disappointed with just a point last month.
Man United dominated the first half, playing brilliant, free-flowing football and racking up more than double Bournemouth's shots.
Their strong start was followed by an opener by Bruno Fernandes from the spot after Matheus Cunha skipped between two players to earn a penalty, however, this penalty would play a big role later on in the game.
Both sides would go on to score to make the game 2-1 to United, and shortly after, Amad would go down in the box after seemingly being shoved to the ground. The referee signalled for no penalty, and the Cherries went up the other end, where Evanilson won his side a penalty, along with a straight red for Harry Maguire.
This chain of events left many people questioning the officials. Many believed that the Maguire foul was soft and did not warrant any punishment, and others believe Amad was denied a penalty due to the referee giving United one just over 10 minutes prior.
Statement's on the Amad penalty incident
According to reports from BBC Sport, the KMI Panel were tightly split with three votes to two in favour of the referee's decision, implying that the uproar and debates that surrounded the incident were justified.
The quotes justifying their decision were, "whilst Truffert runs a risk, the contact made was not impactful and therefore below the high threshold for a foul".
The Two panellists that agreed with Amad's claims for a penalty described the incident as "non-footballing and a penalty should have been awarded".
The KMI Panel stated that another reason the decision was correct was because it aligned with "keeping with the high threshold for VAR overturns", meaning the incident was not deemed severe enough to potentially lower the threshold for an overturn.
Michael Carrick voiced his confusion in a post match interview as he said, "the Cunha one, he gives, the second one on Amad he doesn't, which is I think almost identical, really. Two hands on someone in the box, and they go over and they're in control of the ball,"
Carrick clearly agreeing with many Manchester United fans and potentially suggesting that the referee was scared to grant United with another penalty, so soon after Fernandes scored from the spot.
How Maguire's absence will impact United
Harry Maguire has started every game for Michael Carrick since his appointment, earning the Man of the Match award in the 3-2 victory over Arsenal, and becoming a stalwart in defence.
Furthermore, throughout his career at Man United, he has proven to be a reliable and prolific goal threat from set pieces, which United will miss. Therefore, filling his shoes will be very tough; however, it could be the start of something special.
Before the sacking of Ruben Amorim, both this season and last, Ayden Heaven was a regular on the team sheet, becoming a fan favourite with his calmness and ability on the ball.
Also, due to their young ages, many fans have already decided to put their stocks into Heaven and Leny Yoro becoming the main partnership for years to come. The two have been seen bonding off the pitch, leaving fans optimistic for the future.
With Yoro in good form as of late, earning his spot back in the team, these three games could see the two partner up for the first time consistently, making the next few weeks crucial for their development as Manchester United players.
