Manchester United's final game of their 2026 pre-season comes against AC Milan, and the Reds will come up against a familiar face in Ruben Amorim.
Manchester United are preparing for the final fixture of their 2026 pre-season tour, with a highly anticipated meeting against AC Milan, now managed by former United head coach Rúben Amorim.
Amorim was dismissed by United earlier this year following a breakdown in his relationship with the club’s hierarchy. Michael Carrick took over before the end of the season and was subsequently appointed on a permanent basis.
During Amorim’s spell at Old Trafford, Marcus Rashford was removed from the squad following a falling-out with the manager, while Kobbie Mainoo struggled for regular playing time. That makes the upcoming clash particularly intriguing, with both players expected to make their first appearances of pre-season against Amorim’s Milan side.
United began their preparations with a defeat to Wrexham before bouncing back with victories over Rosenborg and Atletico Madrid. They then recorded 1-1 draws against Paris Saint-Germain and Leeds United.
The Reds will now look to finish their pre-season on a positive note against AC Milan before turning their attention to their Premier League opener away to Hull City next Saturday.
Noussair Mazraoui on Amorim reunion
It will certainly be interesting to see Manchester United face up against an Amorim-led side so soon after his departure from Old Trafford.
The Portuguese head coach has admitted that he made mistakes while in charge of the Reds, and he will be looking to rectify those errors in Italy.
Speaking about his former head coach, Noussair Mazraoui has explained how it will be good to see him at the Tarczynski Arena in Wroclaw, Poland, on the weekend.
"It's a big game against a big team. Of course, we all know Ruben [Amorim], so it'll be good to see each other again," the Moroccan defender explained.
Marcus Rashford to make Man Utd return
Amorim's presence will certainly be the main talking point of this game, particularly after Michael Carrick suggested that Marcus Rashford and Kobbie Mainoo, as well as Lisandro Martinez, will be available for the clash.
"They're in good shape," the United boss explained when asked about the trio. "They haven't been out too long. You're talking about three weeks, really.
"If that was during a season, it wouldn't be a major issue but, because it's pre-season, it can be seen they've had a holiday and now they're back.
"But they're in good shape, pretty much all of them, in good shape and it's balancing the week and wanting most of the lads involved in the three games, in different ways.
"It's a little bit more on Saturday, the ones that need it, and it will set up a good training week, going in to Hull."
Rashford and Mainoo both had problems with Amorim during his time in charge. The former departed on loan to Aston Villa and Barcelona, while the latter was criminally underused, and both players will likely want to prove a point to their former boss on the weekend.
