Casemiro is leaving Manchester United this summer and the club need to replace him with a top-class midfielder, and the Brazilian has explained the most important attribute for that player.

How will Casemiro be remembered at Man Utd?

Earlier this season, Casemiro announced that he will be leaving Manchester United when his contract expires in the summer.

The midfielder has since delivered important goals and strong performances. United supporters have been chanting for him to stay for another year, but he has confirmed that will not be the case.

There are seven games remaining for the ex-Real Madrid star at Old Trafford and then the club will need to find a suitable replacement for him in the summer transfer window.

Reports have suggested that United are aiming to sign at least two midfield players but one must be able to provide stability at the base of the engine room.

Casemiro explains 'most important' attribute for United's next midfielder

Casemiro has been speaking to United's media team this week and answering questions from supporters.

One fan asked the Brazilian star what the most important attribute a young defensive midfield player needs to learn to control games - a skill that Casemiro's replacement will need to have.

He explained how the ability to focus in every moment is the difference for a top defensive midfield player; a position Casemiro believes is the most difficult on the pitch.

“I think a centre-midfielder, especially a defensive one, for me is the most important position on the pitch," he said. "It is where everything happens and is what connects everything together, from the attack to the defence.

"For me, the focus has to be here and focus on every touch is very important. I think you must maintain focus in every play, you must be aware of all the players around you and the decisions other players make. So, for me, it is the most important and most difficult position in football.”

United's midfield signings could define next season

United have been linked with several midfielders to replace Casemiro, with Adam Wharton, Sandro Tonali and Elliot Anderson among those players.

It is a big decision for the club this summer and one that could shape how they perform next season. As Casemiro said, it's the most important position.

Almost every successful team in recent times have had a top-class defensive midfielder controlling the games for them and United have struggled when trying to recruit in that area of the pitch.

If they can get the signings right this summer, United will be hoping that they can continue to show improvements on the pitch and challenge for the top silverware.
