Casemiro will depart Manchester United in the summer when his contract expires but his fellow Brazilian Matheus Cunha will continue to be an important player at Old Trafford.
Earlier this season, Casemiro announced that he will be leaving Manchester United when his contract expires in the summer.
The midfielder has since scored important goals and provided solid performances. United supporters have been chanting for him to stay for one more year but he has confirmed that will not be the case.
He will be leaving Matheus Cunha as the only Brazilian at Old Trafford. The forward joined the club from Wolves last summer and has impressed under Michael Carrick.
Cunha has seven goals and two assists so far this season but has displayed important attributes away from goalscoring.
Many fans are hoping that this is only the start for Cunha and that he can improve even more going forward, and that seems to be something that Casemiro echoes.
Casemiro praises Cunha as 'important' for United
Cunha's first goal for United came during a 4-2 win over Brighton at Old Trafford. He netted the opener in that game from just outside of the penalty box.
It was Casemiro who played a cute through-ball to assist his fellow Brazilian and the midfielder has explained how pleased he was to help Cunha score his first goal for the club.
When asked about his ‘favourite’ assist, Casemiro told Manchester United’s official website: “I don’t know if it is my favourite, but one I like is one I did [last] year for Cunha, because he is a player that I have a lot of affection for, and he wanted to open his goalscoring account and I was the first to give him an assist.”
He added: “I am sure he will always remember it, as he is a player that is going to be so important for Man Utd, and I was able to give him his first assist.”
Cunha has gone on to score some more goals for the Reds, with the standout being the match-winner at the Emirates Stadium against Arsenal.
How Cunha's game can improve
Under Michael Carrick, Cunha's role has been interesting and recent games saw the forward operate much wider than he usually does.
United need to have threats on the flanks but Luke Shaw no longer offers as much support on the overlap when playing at left-back.
That has meant Cunha has needed to provide that and he has done a good job, although it is clear that the player prefers to be able to drift inside.
The return of Patrick Dorgu from injury may help the Brazilian as Carrick could test out Dorgu as the left-back in certain games where United will dominate possession.
A move like that could be exactly what Cunha needs to take his game to the next level at Old Trafford.
