On Sunday afternoon, in one of the 14:00 GMT kick offs in the Premier League, Manchester United pulled off an absolutely huge win for their UEFA Champions League ambitions, as they defeated fellow hopefuls Aston Villa with a 3-1 win.
The game was somewhat complicated - 0-0 at half time, conceding an equaliser, being overran at times, etc - but the class of a few crucial players told in the end.
No more so than Bruno Fernandes, who picked up his 15th and 16th Premier League assists of the season, as he set up Brazilians Casemiro and Matheus Cunha for the first and second United goals.
As a result, the 31-year old has been officially recognised by the Premier League themselves, with a nomination for the Player of the Week award for game week 30 of the season.
He is joined by fellow nominees Max Dowman of Arsenal, Anthony Gordon of Newcastle United, Konstantinos Mavropanos of West Ham United, and Richarlison of Tottenham Hotspur.
Aside from the two assists, it was another very good performance from United's number eight. During the game, he created six chances, completed 2/3 long balls, had three shots, and completed 15 carries.
Owing to how good his performance was, Fernandes drew praise from Premier League legend Thierry Henry on Monday Night Football, who happens to be one of the two players that the midfielder is chasing down for the assist record, of 20.
Last summer, it was a badly kept secret that there was interest from Saudi Pro League side, Al Hilal. In the end, Fernandes decided to stay in Europe, despite admitting it would have been easy for him to take the money and play with friend Joao Cancelo.
Furthermore, he also admitted that he felt the club wanted to cash in on him, but ultimately, he stayed regardless and thank goodness he did. Can you imagine the first half of the season, under Ruben Amorim, but without the skipper? The club would be having a season similar to Spurs.
Let's hope that this summer, the club can build a team around him, capable of challenging for trophies, and playing Champions League football. He will be 32 in September, off the back of a World Cup campaign with Portugal, so some depth to give him some rest here and there would be useful too. Let's see.
