Matheus Cunha has had a solid debut season so far at Manchester United following his summer move from Wolves in 2025.
Manchester United made the decision to improve their strike-force last summer after the likes of Alejandro Garnacho and Rasmus Højlund underperformed in 2024/25.
Three big-money signings were made, with Matheus Cunha, Bryan Mbeumo and Benjamin Šeško all coming into the club.
All three of those players have had periods of impressive form this season, helping United to third in the Premier League table.
Cunha, 27, has been thriving in recent months. The Brazilian scored the winning goal in the latest victory over Chelsea, a win that has all but secured Champions League football at Old Trafford for next season.
The ex-Wolves star has eight goals and two assists in the Premier League so far this season. He started the campaign relatively slowly but now looks comfortable at the club.
Cunha explains biggest change at Man Utd
Cunha has explained the main reason why his form has improved during his first season at United in an interview with TNT Sports this week.
The attacking star noted how he realised that he needed to 'adapt' his game 'to another level' while learning how to excel alongside other United players.
“You can feel how much smoother we are [recently]. In the beginning, I felt like I was Cunha from Wolves, playing a different game than what I need to play here," he said.
“After a couple of months, I realised I needed to adapt my game to another level, with more time we feel more together. I adapt to learn how Bryan likes the ball, how Ben likes the ball, Bruno, and Amad.”
In the past, Cunha was almost a one-man attack at Wolves and he has had to learn how to adapt to playing alongside his new teammates.
Things are going well for him at the moment and he will be hoping that he can kick on further in the final stretch of the season.
New left-back could help Cunha
Cunha has started playing wider under Michael Carrick and his game looks slightly different to how it used to.
One thing that could help the Brazilian next season is the addition of an attack-minded fullback behind him.
Luke Shaw no longer offers consistent overlapping runs that would help Cunha create space and move inside the pitch.
Patrick Dorgu or a summer signing may allow Cunha to get into more dangerous positions and also offer another player for him to link up with when attacking on the left flank.
It will be an interesting development to pay attention to when next season comes around.
