Manchester United were victorious in their latest Premier League encounter as they won 2-1 against Brentford at Old Trafford on Monday evening.
Michael Carrick had to contend with a number of injuries as Manchester United faced Brentford at Old Trafford in an important fixture in the push for Champions League spots.
United started strongly and quickly asserted their dominance. Their pressure paid off when Casemiro rose highest at the back post to head home the opening goal, something that has become a trademark moment for the team this season.
Brentford’s Igor Thiago looked dangerous at times, but United responded well. Benjamin Šeško extended the lead before halftime, calmly finishing after being played through by Bruno Fernandes.
Both teams continued to create openings in the second half, but it wasn’t until the final minute that Brentford got on the scoresheet, with Mathias Jensen striking from long range.
Despite a late surge from the visitors, Carrick’s well-organised defence held firm, allowing United to secure an important victory and claim all three points.
Two Man Utd stars named in PL TOTW
United were not at their very best against Brentford but there were still some key performers who helped the team get over the line.
Casemiro scored a crucial goal and had an all-round great performance which saw him named in the FotMob Premier League Team of the Week. He produced an 8.9/10 display which was the highest of any player in the division this week.
Harry Maguire was also included in the team after assisting the Brazilian and defending strongly throughout the clash.
Maguire returned to the United side after a two-game suspension and it was clear that the Reds missed his presence at the back.

Mainoo was United's standout player
While Casemiro and Maguire certainly deserve their plaudits after producing strong performances against Brentford, it was another star who was the standout player.
Kobbie Mainoo looked like United's best player on the night and he is finding his best form once again under Carrick.
The youngster deserved to get an assist – one which would've been the best of the season – if not for Amad's poor finish. He produced brilliance on the ball while also being strong defensively.
With a new contract on the horizon, Mainoo is going to be an important player for United going forwards and the club will have to sign a good partner for him in the summer when Casemiro leaves.
United have only lost one game under Carrick when the academy graduate has started, and it feels like he's still got so much room to improve, which is a very good thing.
