Harry Maguire has reacted to his red card for Manchester United during their controversial 2-2 draw against Bournemouth

Harry Maguire red card could give Ayden Heaven a chance...

Manchester United dropped two points on Friday evening after a whirlwind fixture against Andoni Iraola's Bournemouth.

Bruno Fernandes scored the opening goal early in the second half. He slotted calmly from the penalty spot after Matheus Cunha did excellently to win a foul inside the area.

Shortly afterwards, Amad was also dragged to the ground in the Bournemouth box but Stuart Attwell decided against awarding another penalty. The hosts then scored immediately afterwards to ensure controversy around the decision.

United re-took the lead following a Fernandes corner but then Harry Maguire's sending off provided Iraola's side with a chance to equalise from their own penalty, and have an extra-man advantage heading into the final stages of the game.

Michael Carrick's side were able to dig deep and hold onto the draw and have since launched an official complaint to PGMOL about the decisions from Attwell during the game.

Harry Maguire reacts to red card vs Bournemouth

Maguire was handed his first England call-up under Thomas Tuchel earlier in the day on Friday but the night ended badly for the defender.

The 33-year-old has been in excellent form under Carrick but was punished for a holding offence against Evanilson inside the box. Some fans have complained that it was similar to the Amad incident which the referee waved away.

Reacting to the incident on his Instagram page, Maguire described the red card as 'so soft' but admitted he should have known better in the moment. He also mentioned the inconsistency from the referee by not giving Amad a penalty too.

“So soft but that’s where football is at atm [at the moment] and I should know better," the veteran centre-back wrote.

"You would think both decisions would reach the same outcome," he added. "We will be back after the break. Safe travel home reds, your support has been unbelievable."

Maguire will be unavailable for selection when United return to action after the international break against Leeds but will be back in contention for the clash with Chelsea afterwards.

Will Ayden Heaven start vs Leeds?

Ayden Heaven came off the bench on Friday evening after Maguire's red card and the young defender performed well in difficult circumstances.

He was shining in defence before Carrick's arrival but it was understandable to see the head coach opt for experience at the back to help improve results.

It remains to be seen whether Lisandro Martínez will be available for the clash with Leeds but it would be interesting to see Heaven in the team if the Argentine is not ready.

Alongside Leny Yoro, the ex-Arsenal academy player is an extremely talented defender and looks like he will be an important part of United's future, but he will be desperate to get more game-time before the end of the season.

Once United are back playing European football, he will then have plenty of chances to play at Old Trafford and develop his game further.
