Free agent Anthony Martial seeks a top-flight return after his Monterrey exit, sparking interest as Everton hunts for clinical reinforcements to bolster a depleted attacking front line.
With the transfer window now over, Manchester United completed the window with five signings, with four being key members of the senior Squad.
Due to the departure of Casemiro and Manuel Ugarte's injury, a midfield rebuild was on the agenda, which the club completed. Youri Tielemans, Andrey Santos, and Carlos Baleba were the three Premier League-proven choices to improve the squad.
Both André Onana and Altay Bayindir departed the club on loan this summer, meaning the club needed a backup goalkeeper. Karl Darlow was brought in on a free transfer after leaving Leeds United upon the expiry of his contract.
Marcus Rashford was reintegrated into the United squad by Michael Carrick, which lessened the need for a winger signing. That meant the club instead went for 18-year-old Tynan Thompson from Tottenham Hotspur in what is meant to be a deal similar to the way Ayden Heaven was brought into Old Trafford.
Everton Target Martial
After losing Beto to Fiorentina, Everton have only Thierno Barry as their first-team striker. The Toffees targeted Joshua Zirkzee in a late deadline-day deal, but it collapsed after Ben Jacobs revealed the club preferred to keep the Dutchman.
However, since then, David Moyes's side has been looking at the free agency market for alternatives. Former Manchester United striker Anthony Martial has been suggested as a potential option.
According to TeamTalk, the Frenchman wants a return to the Premier League and has been exploring options through intermediaries, with Everton in the mix for his signature. However, their sources suggest that Everton is not currently pursuing his signature.
Martial scored 90 goals for the Red Devils in 317 games, but has been out of contract since he left Liga MX side Monterrey after mutually agreeing to terminate the deal.
Need to learn from Martial
For fans of a certain age, Martial might be one of their favourite players. A silky technician on the ball, full of flair, and an ice-cool, clinical finisher.
However, Manchester United need to learn from how previous management used the Frenchman. Due to a lack of backup options, the player often played every game when he was available, even if he wasn't fit.
This led to him having a number of muscle-related injuries that continued to get worse and repetitive, which led to his body breaking down and ultimately his departure from United.
When players get injured, the club needs to always ensure they only return when they are ready too, as otherwise we risk what happened to Martial or even players like Luke Shaw in the past happening again.
