Fresh off a record-breaking season under Michael Carrick, United’s captain silences transfer rumors by embracing the challenge of restoring the Red Devils to European football's summit.
Manchester United have greatly improved on a mediocre start to the season under Rúben Amorim, who was sacked subsequently. The board appointed former Red Michael Carrick to see off the season, and United ended the season with an enviable third-place finish, also qualifying for the Champions League.
Carrick reverted to a standard 4-2-3-1 formation, playing players in their recognised positions, such as Amad Diallo and Diogo Dalot, and bringing Kobbie Mainoo back into the starting eleven, where he continued to thrive.
United captain Bruno Fernandes had what went down as the best season he has ever played at club level, recording a staggering 21 assists in the Premier League, smashing the league record in doing so.
The Portuguese international has since spoken in the press regarding his future at the club, following comments from CEO Omar Berrada, and has revealed how he wishes to bring the glory days back to the Reds.
Bruno committed to leading United
After a stellar season, Fernandes has evidently attracted the interest of top European clubs. As the most in-form midfielder in the world, Fernandes could move to a more competitive club this summer, as there is no guarantee United will challenge for domestic or European silverware next season.
Manchester Evening News reports that Berrarda mentions this during his interview, "We’d like him to stay, of course we do... We’ve loved what he’s done, and he loves being here, I think you can see that. He wanted to stay on [the pitch]. He wants to stay on every single game because he’s enjoying his football, which is fantastic."
The influence of Fernandes cannot be understated, since the 31-year-old signed for the club in January of 2020, he has been the Reds' best player in every match he's played.
His excellence has led the Reds to two trophies, a historic first League cup win since Louis van Gaal won the domestic trophy in 2017, and an FA Cup win under Erik ten Hag, which secured Europa League football in a season when United finished eighth.
Fernandes speaks about the importance of winning, explaining that he feels any player now who joins the club will understand that they are being recruited to bring United back to the very top of world football.
"Playing for Manchester United is always a special moment for everyone. At the same time, it brings a lot of responsibility with it," Fernandes said.
"But I don't think anyone comes to Manchester United thinking that we won't have the responsibility to win again, to be at the top of Premier League, at the top of European football."
Carrick has full faith in Bruno
The 44-year-old has been miraculous in the short stinit he has been in control of the club, he has greatly improved the trajectory of United since his tenure begun, with fans having sufficed a lacklustre few seasons.
Players have sung the praises of Carrick ever since he arrived at the club, and this is proven through his impact on team morale, which has seen a vast improvement during his tenure.
