With three new arrivals secured, Manchester United are hunting a marquee midfielder to finish their rebuild, but the French star’s loyalty to Madrid poses a major roadblock.
After a slow start, Manchester United have completed a frenzy of transfers in the space of a few days.
It all began with the signing of Andrey Santos from Chelsea, followed by Karl Darlow on a free from Leeds and then the surprise signing of Youri Tielemans from Aston Villa.
Going into the summer, it was widely reported that the club wanted three midfield signings, and with the injury to Manuel Ugarte, it made it even more of a necessity. Now the club only need one more to complete their planned rebuild.
As the club has only spent £85 million on the three signings so far, it has left money in the bank to target a big name.
Camavinga wants to stay
Over the last few weeks, Manchester United have been heavily linked with a move for Aurélien Tchouaméni. However, the Frenchman never wanted to leave Real Madrid and instead signed a new contract.
This has not stopped the club pivoting to his teammate Eduardo Camavinga as a new marquee name. It was widely reported that he could be a player that Los Blancos could part ways with to make room for more signings.
According to Fabrizio Romano, the club have held talks internally about weighing a move for the midfielder to complete their rebuild.
However, Romano also reported that the player does not want to leave Madrid and wants to fight for his place to impress Jose Mourinho.
United need to move on
Camavinga is undoubtedly one of the most talented players in world football. Despite only being 23, he is a two-time Champions League winner and has both the physical and technical traits to succeed in the Premier League.
He is also a versatile player, being able to play in the six or as an eight, and even able to fill in at left-back.
He is a player that the club were heavily linked with before his move to Madrid when he was at Rennes. Every year since then, there have always been rumours linking him to the club, but it never amounted to serious links.
This feels similar to the rumours we've seen in the past. After seeing Tchouaméni's unwillingness to leave, United should quickly move on from Camavinga, given the fact that he is not entertaining any moves away.
