Gary Pallister has claimed that one of Manchester United's academy graduates would 'love' to come back to the club after their recent departure.
Manchester United decided to sell Scott McTominay to Napoli in the summer of 2024 to aid their financial position.
The Reds received pure profit from that sale even though then-manager Erik ten Hag made it clear that he did not want the Scotsman to depart.
McTominay was viewed as a valuable squad player at Old Trafford but has since eclipsed all expectations in Italy.
He was the Serie A Player of the Season during his first year away from Manchester as he led Napoli to win the title. This term, his importance in Naples remains clear.
Many United supporters still feel like McTominay should not have been sold and club legend Gary Pallister agrees with that stance.
McTominay would 'love to come back' to United
Pallister, 60, has been speaking about McTominay this week and suggested that the midfielder would 'love to come back' to the club.
However, McTominay is now Napoli's star man and Pallister admits that he isn't sure whether a move back to Manchester would be feasible.
"Listen, I think Scott McTominay has got a great affinity with Manchester United and the fans," Pallister told Record Sport.
"He grew up there, and I'm sure there's a place in his heart that would feel like he'd love to come back to Manchester United, but whether that's feasible or not, I don't know. He's a player that I probably wouldn't have let go."
McTominay has seven goals and three assists in the Italian league so far this season, while Napoli sit third in the standings.
United need other midfielders this summer
McTominay has been fantastic for Napoli since leaving United but that doesn't necessarily mean he must return to the club.
United do need a midfield rebuild this summer but they are desperate for different profiles. McTominay's struggles at Old Trafford mostly came due to the fact he couldn't play in his best midfield role.
It doesn't really make sense for McTominay to come back when Bruno Fernandes remains at the tip of United's midfield. Instead, the Reds will be looking at players who can compliment the team dynamics.
The Scotsman is doing brilliantly in Italy and will likely continue to do so going forwards.
