Manchester United have added fullback, Neco Williams to their summer shortlist as the club looks to bolster both sides of their defence in the upcoming transfer window.
The Welshman has had yet another consistent year for Forest, featuring in all but one of their Premier League matches this season, and racking up 51 appearances in all competitions.
This availability will be very attractive to Manchester United as Patrick Dorgu has been injured for a large chunk of the season; and despite playing every league match this season, Luke Shaw's injury record is just as bad if not worse.
It has not been a great season for Forest this year; however, towards the back end of the season, Neco Williams, along with a few others, has been a shining light for them, helping his side stay up and push to the Europa League semi-finals.
Williams can also get involved in the attack, regardless of it not being his main job, Williams has had two goals and four assists this season.
Another interesting part about his game is his versatility. Williams has played the majority of the season at left-back, however, he has also played right-back, and both sides as a wingback aswell.
Williams' current transfer status
According to Sami Mokbel at BBCSport, prying Neco Williams away from Nottingham this summer may be quite difficult for Man United.
Reportedly, The Red Devils are not the only Premier League club sniffing around the situation. Newcastle United, Aston Villa and Everton also have the defender on their radars.
With United being the most attractive destination of the lot, and having guaranteed Champions League football next season, they will likely be the frontrunners.
However, Neco Williams is a Liverpool academy graduate and played over 30 times for the first team. Therefore, if he does still have some sort of affiliation with United's biggest rivals, he may refuse a move to Old Trafford.
Furthermore, Forest have opened talks with the 25-year-old over a contract extension, despite still having three years left on said contract, they will look to improve their offer to persuade him to stay.
Is Williams the right man for United?
It is quite well known that most Liverpool fans, likewise with United fans, are incredibly passionate about their respected clubs, therefore if Neco Williams is a true Liverpool supporter, persuading him to come to United will be a huge struggle and most United fans will also be sceptical about it, regardless of his ability.
However, from a footballing perspective, he would be a brilliant addition to the squad. Even if he does not become one of the best full-backs in the league, his ability to play on both sides of the pitch will be crucial for United when injuries inevitably occur.
Forest's Welshman is not the only choice this summer for Man United, they have multiple potential acquisitions within the Premier League.
Lewis Hall from Newcastle is reportedly seen by many, including Jason Wilcox, as the dream option this summer. Despite Newcastle probably being reluctant to let him go knowing that they may be enduring a huge rebuild in the summer, the Red Devils will more than likely try their luck with him this upcoming window.
Another, potentially cheaper option would be West Ham's Malick Diouf who has impressed many fans in his debut season in England, and with the Hammers looking likely to go down, they may look to cash in.
Nothing is for certain yet, however, it will be very interesting to see which avenue United go down first as they look to find a new full-back this summer.
