Real Madrid’s willingness to sell Aurelien Tchouaméni offers Michael Carrick a golden chance to secure a transformative powerhouse and solve the Red Devils' mounting midfield crisis.
Coming into this summer, it has been no secret that United's transfer strategy this transfer window has been to prioritize and overhaul the midfield with reinforcements, similar to the way in which United was able to rejuvenate their attack in last summer's window.
Following the departure of Casemiro and now the recent news of Manuel Ugarte's long-term knee injury, strengthening the midfield has now become even more vital, especially if United wish to compete on all fronts next season effectively, with the Reds back into the UEFA Champions League for the first time in over two seasons.
Many names have been mentioned over the previous months as potential targets, with United reportedly already having sealed a deal for Brazilian midfielder Ederson from Atalanta, whilst West Ham midfielder Matheus Fernandes remains another name who keeps popping up.
However, following recent reports, the Reds look set to be given a boost concerning a different midfield target, who, if United can get their hands on, could really transform Michael Carricks side.
United Given Tchouaméni Boost
[REUTERS]One of the names that has repeatedly kept cropping up on United's potential midfield shortlist over the previous months has been Aurelien Tchouaméni, but in recent weeks, talk of a potential move to Old Trafford for the Frenchman seemed to have cooled, with price and availability looking like a major stumbling block for a potential deal.
However, following recent reports from The Athletic this morning, it is claimed that given Real Madrid's desire to sell the midfielder, and Eduardo Camavinga not wanting to leave Los Blancos, the club would be open to offers for Tchouaméni, with United said to be big fans of the midfielder.
With United still set to be focusing on securing a deal for West Ham United midfielder Matheus Fernandes, with the Hammers setting an asking price of £85 milliion, it is yet to be seen whether United would be able to pull off both signings, whilst still being able to strengthen in other areas of the squad that are much needed this summer,
Although now with the prospect of Champions League football and all the additional revenue that is set to come with it, as well as the opportunity to raise funds from potential sales this summer, with United already receiving £40 million from Napoli for the transfer of Rasmus Hoijland, their is still a possibilty where United could maybe pull off the unthinkable.
How Would Tchouaméni Fit At United?
[REUTERS]With Casemiro now having left the club, you'd struggle to find a much better replacement than Aurelien Tchouaméni.
If United were able to bring the Frenchman in, he would help plug a lot of the hole in midfield that Casemiro would have left, with his best attributes being his ability to win aerial duels in both boxes, his defensive work rate, and passing ability, all attributes United desperately crying out for in their midfield.
Being only 26 years old, this would essentially be like signing a young Casemiro, which is something most United fans wished would have been the case all those years ago, given what the Brazilian went on to achieve in a United shirt.
This has the potential to become a great market opportunity that United cannot afford to miss out on, with Tchouaméni about to enter his prime years, having already gained masses amount of experience starting for Real Madrid for four seasons now, and United in desperate need of midfield quality, this could prove to be an era-defining signing for The Red Devils.
