Old Trafford officials have deemed André Onana surplus to requirements, seeking to recoup his massive transfer fee as the club prepares for a ruthless squad overhaul under Ineos.
Until the signing of Senne Lammens, the goalkeeping situation at Manchester United was proving to be a nightmare.
After the departure of David De Gea, Andre Onana was brought in from Inter Milan after a stellar campaign with the Italian club, as he competed in the Champions League final and showcased why he was the perfect modern-day keeper.
However, the Cameroonian seemingly never took to life in Manchester as his repeated blunders overshadowed any good performance he had, before being overshadowed by backup, Altay Bayindir.
This season, Onana has spent his time in Turkey on loan at Trabzonspor.
Onana set for Old Trafford exit
It is fair to say that the former Ajax and Inter Milan goalkeeper has impressed in Turkey as he helped his side reach the Turkish Cup final with two brilliant penalty saves.
Despite multiple reports suggesting the Cameroonian wants to return to United to fight for his spot between the posts, Onana has been told his future does not lie at Old Trafford, according to Chris Wheeler.
The club reportedly think that his supposed £120,000-a-week wages will be difficult to leave on the bench and wants to recoup as much of the £47 million fee they paid for him.
Trabzonspor are eager to keep the player, but according to Wheeler, a return on loan may be the most likely scenario due to his wages and the high fee the club would want.
End of an era
With the sale of Onana and Rasmus Hojlund, as well as potentially the exit of Manuel Ugarte, the club will be marking the end of an era with three of the poor signings under Erik Ten Hag heading out the door.
Manchester United could recoup over £50 million for the three of them, and that would help massively for the overhaul set to commence this summer for the midfield. As United ideally would like to sign two big midfielders like Carlos Baleba, Elliot Anderson or Mateus Fernandes, then the extra money raised through sales would be vital.
With Marcus Rashford and Tyrell Malacia also heading towards the exit, the Ineos era is well and truly underway.
Not every transfer will be perfect, but the club only need to look at the signings in the Erik Ten Hag era as the way not to go about the window.
