Sky Germany (via Sport Witness) has claimed that Michael Carrick's side are 'in the running' for the Norwegian defender as backup or even competition for Diogo Dalot.
However, the report makes it clear that a move would only occur if Mazraoui were to leave the club.
The German club have reportedly not set a price tag on Ryerson but a fee over £26 million could be enough to convince the club into selling.
With the player set to go to the World Cup with Norway, it may be a deal that United will have to act on sooner rather than later as players who excel at major tournaments always attract many suitors and for big prices.
United need more shrewd deals
It is expected that United will go big for midfielders. Whether that is Carlos Baleba, Elliot Anderson, Ederson or Aurélien Tchouaméni, the cost of all the midfielders could be around £150 million.
Assuming the club make sales too, that could leave anywhere between 50 - 100 million left to spend on the rest of the squad.
With a left-back certainly needed, a back-up striker, a left-winger, and maybe even a back-up goalkeeper, these kinds of shrewd deals are what INEOS need to look at.
