Manchester United are set for a very busy summer transfer window, with several new additions needed to go alongside the incoming mass sale.

Manchester United's priority MUST be the midfield

Director of Football Jason Wilcox looks set to be the busiest Manchester United employee this summer, with the Red Devils looking to add several new players to their squad amid their return to the Champions League.

The first point of call will be to replace Michael Carrick, who was appointed head coach until the end of the season after Darren Fletcher's two-game stint in the days after Rúben Amorim's sacking.

Despite only narrowly beating his former boss Ole Gunnar Solskjær to the temporary position, Carrick now seems a real contender for the permanent position for next season and beyond. Carlo Ancellotti and Thomas Tuchel - two candidates for the head coach role - have signed new contracts with their national sides, while Luis Enrique also looks destined to sign a new deal.

After the new head coach, Jason Wilcox will have to turn his attention to signing a replacement for the outgoing Casemiro, who confirmed he will be leaving the club upon the expiry of his contract. Elliot Anderson is one of many names to be mentioned, but it seems Manchester City are currently winning the race for his signature

As well as bringing in new players, United will also be looking at selling some first-team stars, who haven't played as much this season, due to the lack of cup football at Old Trafford.

United plan eight-man firesale

Many fans have claimed United will need a bigger squad next season, with a return to the Champions League looking likely, but it seems the club are looking to trim the squad.

The Sun have reported that United are looking to make at least £100 million from an eight-man firesale this summer. Manuel Ugarte and Joshua Zirkzee look set to be sold, as do three loan stars: Rasmus Hojlund, Andre Onana and Marcus Rashford.

Casemiro, Tyrell Malacia and Jadon Sancho will all leave the club as free agents at the end of the season, which will save the club millions in wage fees.

United seem ready to accept a loss on Ugarte and Zirkzee, although a recent statement from Bryan Mbeumo could help the Dutchman's case for remaining at Old Trafford, at least for another season.

The £100 million target seems to be in regard to Nottingham Forest midfielder Elliot Anderson, who has recently had his price tag set

Who will fill the squad?

If United are looking at selling Ugarte and Zirkzee, they will lose two squad members, while Casemiro's departure will also leave a big hole in the side.

The Red Devils are already looking at one high-profile midfielder, but could be forced into signing another, or even trusting a youth player to join the first-team squad. As it stands, it seems Kobbie Mainoo will be the only senior option in the double pivot next season, perhaps forcing Jack or Tyler Fletcher to step up, although Toby Collyer will also be hungry for a spot.

As for the rest of the side, Chido Obi may be flung into the first team once again, as the third-choice centre-forward behind Bryan Mbeumo and Benjamin Šeško, while Shea Lacey could also make up the numbers on the flank.

In defence, Harry Amass could be in competition with Luke Shaw next season, especially if Diego Leon is sent on loan for his second year of English football.

Goalkeepers will be a huge issue for the recruitment team. Senne Lammens could be left as the only senior shotstopper, with Altay Bayindir looking likely to leave and Tom Heaton potentially eyeing retirement.
