Manchester United's attack was a strong point from last season's campaign, with the likes of Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo both hitting the ground running upon their arrival at Old Trafford last summer.

However, the Red Devils were without an out-and-out striker during periods of the campaign due to Benjamin Sesko's injury troubles. Despite the Slovenian having a positive start to life in England, fans will be hoping he can really kickstart his United career in the upcoming season.

Michael Carrick has been given control over what players he wants in his squad, and with his side playing in the Champions League next season, having sufficient depth will be at the forefront of his mind. 

A backup striker will surely be on Carrick's shopping list, and there are a few players that have been linked with a move to Manchester already. One in particular has already left a mark in this year's World Cup, and has gathered the attention of a multitude of Premier League clubs.

Brian Brobbey is a striker who has split opinions amongst fans after his debut season in the Premier League for Sunderland. The 24-year-old found the back of the net seven times in his first campaign, in what was a spectacular season for the Black Cats, which saw them overachieve after being promoted from the Championship.

Brobbey is a powerful presence at the top-end of the pitch, and what he lacks technically, makes up for in pure strength and pace. He has also scored two goals in two games during the current World Cup, and has attracted interest from many Premier League sides.

Manchester United is one of them, and according to TEAMtalk, the Red Devils are currently  ‘weighing up possible summer approaches’, alongside four other clubs. 

United scouts are reportedly impressed with Brobbey's physical attributes, as well as his work off the ball, a trait that is becoming more and more important as football progresses into a high-pressing game.

The Red Devils have been interested in the Netherland's international for many seasons, going back to when Erik ten Hag was in charge. Being 'long-time suitors' of Brobbey, the club has had many seasons to analyse the striker, and it seems they have come to a positive conclusion.

Despite interest in the attacker, the Black Cats have made it clear that they 'have no intention of sanctioning a sale' this summer. It is a phrase thrown about by a lot of clubs, and Sunderland will likely be persuaded by a hefty price tag.

After an impressive return to the Premier League under Regis Le Bris, Sunderland are looking to build the foundations to becoming a staple side, and 'view Brobbey as a key part of their long-term project.'

However, it has been reported by the Sunderland Echo that the higher-ups at the club may consider bids of around £50m, which sides like Chelsea, Aston Villa and Spurs would likely all pay in order to pry Brobbey away from the North-East.

If the striker can carry on his impressive goalscoring record at the World Cup, it is likely that the Black Cats will up their estimation, and manage to make a tidy profit on the man they signed for £25m last year.
