Michael Carrick's side battles Premier League rivals for Ibrahim Mbaye as PSG look to offload their versatile teenage wonderkid to fund a major summer spending spree.
As expected, much of the talk has been around the midfield targets that Manchester United have missed out on, whether that has been Elliot Anderson or Mateus Fernandes.
Going into the summer, the midfield was not the only area that the Red Devils wanted to improve. A left-winger, a left-back, and a backup goalkeeper were also on the agenda.
Crysencio Summerville has been widely reported as being one of the main targets for United, with West Ham asking for £50 million.
Despite this, the fact that Marcus Rashford is not attracting significant transfer interest has cast doubt over a potential deal for the winger. Without a sale, a deal for a winger cannot progress.
However, a potential market opportunity could open the door for a forward.
United eye up Mbaye
PSG have no shortage of talent with Ousmane Dembele, Desire Doue, Khvicha Kvaratskhelia and Bradley Barcola among their ranks. The Champions League winners have also agreed personal terms with Yan Diomande and have opened talks to sign Maghnes Akliouche.
With much talent at their disposal, it is expected that some players will want to leave in the hope of more game time. Ibrahim Mbaye, who has been widely regarded as one of the most exciting talents to come out of the academy, is expected to seek a transfer away.
Ekrem Konur has reported that United, Aston Villa and Tottenham Hotspur have all explored a move for the winger.
According to Konur, PSG could consider £30 million for Mbaye as they look to fund moves for Diomande and Akliouche.
Brilliant market opportunity
Mbaye is undoubtedly an exceptional wonderkid. But as is the case with players from the PSG academy, they do not always have the opportunity to progress due to the sheer amount of talent in the forward areas.
The 18-year-old only made 10 starts in the league from his 24 appearances but registered three goals and two assists. He has also scored for Senegal in the World Cup despite only one start.
Naturally, a right-winger, which is an area where United have many options. Mbaye is very capable of playing as a winger on both sides, but also as an attacking midfielder.
Of course, this is a risk, but it means the club have some cover for Bruno Fernandes or more dynamic options in the forward areas given the extra games in the Champions League. For £30 million to get a potentially world-class forward, it would be a shrewd deal.
