Marcus Rashford's Manchester United future remains up in the air after an impressive loan at Barcelona.

Could Marcus Rashford return to Manchester United?

Marcus Rashford could be set for an interesting summer transfer saga, as he is now expected to return from his season-long loan at Barcelona.

Hansi Flick's side have a £26 million buy option in Rashford's loan contract, which could still be activated, but it seems this will be too much for Barcelona, with the main priority on a new centre-forward.

Manchester United will likely be forced to include Rashford in their pre-season camp once he returns from World Cup duty with England. Whether they will welcome him back into the squad with open arms remains unknown, as is Rashford's stance on returning to his boyhood club.

The Red Devils will not be short of suitors should they wish to sell Rashford, with one Premier League side already confirmed to be interested in the England international

Spurs register interest in Rashford

Tottenham Hotspur are in a precarious position at the bottom of the Premier League with 34 points from 34 games. There remains a chance they are relegated, which would dramatically change their transfer plans.

However, with Robert De Zerbi at the helm, Spurs are planning to play top-flight football next season, and have already held "advanced talks" with one Manchester United target

As per Sport, Spurs also hold a "genuine interest" in Marcus Rashford, but they must avoid relegation to have any chance of signing the Barcelona loanee. They face competition from his current side, though.

According to TeamTALK, Barcelona are hopeful of securing Rashford on another 12-month loan.

Rashford has agreed to the move on personal terms and is waiting on an agreement between the two clubs.

Should United attempt to keep Rashford?

Michael Carrick has already made great use of Marcus Rashford at Manchester United during his time coaching under Ole Gunnar Solskjær. It is not yet known if Carrick will stay on next season, but his chances appear to be growing by the day.

A familiar face like Carrick could be enough to convince Rashford to come back, despite losing his No.10 shirt to Matheus Cunha.

Cunha and Patrick Dorgu have played on the left flank under Carrick, but neither are natural in the position, unlike Rashford.

With United set to return to the Champions League, having more options across the pitch will be key to whoever leads the club next season. Rashford's versatility will be a big asset, as will his UCL experience.

However, there are negative factors. Rashford would return as United's best-paid player, while he did struggle before his two loan moves to Aston Villa and Barcelona.

INEOS want to cut the wage bill, but they have also talked about "putting the Manchester back into Manchester United."
