Can Marcus Rashford return this summer?

Marcus Rashford was included in Manchester United's five-man "Bomb Squad" at the start of the season, after a six-month loan spell at Aston Villa.

Rúben Amorim's personal relationship with Rashford led to his season-long loan move to FC Barcelona - a deal which included a £26 million buy-option if Barcelona wished to make the move permanent.

The fellow "Bomb Squad" members were Antony (Real Betis), Alejandro Garnacho (Chelsea), Tyrell Malacia (set to leave as a free agent) and Jadon Sancho (Aston Villa and also set to leave as a free agent).  Rashford was among the first to leave the club, although a return is still possible.

Reports after Michael Carrick replaced Darren Fletcher as the short-term head coach until the end of the season suggested he wanted Rashford to stay at the club if he were to be made permanent manager - something that now seems like a reality.

Rashford's future clarified

Earlier today, reports emerged that Rashford's buy clause expired in March without it being activated by Barcelona, meaning that if they wanted to sign the England international, they would have to negotiate a new fee.

Spanish reports indicated that Rashford would look to extend the loan or attempt to negotiate another fee with the Red Devils, but Rich Fay has now confirmed that isn't the case.

The National World journalist has said that the buy clause has not expired and Barcelona could still activate the £26 million option should they choose to.

Whether he joins Barcelona or returns to Old Trafford, United are confident that they will be able to secure a sale for Rashford. Interest is believed to be high.

Rashford would be a good addition to Carrick's squad

Marcus Rashford has registered 10 goals and 10 assists in 39 appearances in Catalonia in just 25 starts.

Matheus Cunha and Patrick Dorgu have shared the left-winger role since Michael Carrick took charge and returned Manchester United to a back-four shape, but Dorgu has been injured since Carrick's second game against Arsenal.

Dorgu could be an option on the left side of defence as a backup for Luke Shaw, but he seems to be considered more of an attacker now. Rashford's return could allow Dorgu to continue being versatile while United look to play more than a 40-game season.

As it stands, United look set to return to the Champions League, which would see a serious increase on just 40 games this campaign. A bigger squad will be needed, so if he wants to, Rashford would be a great addition.
