As Barcelona hesitate over a permanent deal, the Manchester United legend urges the forward to snub a return to Old Trafford for a fresh start at a different Premier League club.
Marcus Rashford is a player who splits opinion throughout the Manchester United fanbase, but whatever fans think of the 28-year-old, his talent is undeniable at his best. However, he hasn't been at his best for the Red Devils for many seasons, which is why he was shipped on loan to Barcelona at the start of the season.
The England international's season-long loan spell in Spain has been successful, as he helped Barca win La Liga and make a deep run into the Champions League. Rashford managed to find the back of the net 14 times and make ten assists in all competitions.
It is no surprise then, that the United academy product is extremely interested in making his loan spell at Blaugrana permanent. The Spanish giants also have an option to sign Rashford for around £26m, which would be a fair, if not slightly cheap price for the attacker.
However, Rashford's future is Spain is in doubt as Barcelona seemingly are having second thoughts about activating the clause, as they think they may be able to get a better price. Combine this with their recent £70m signing of Anthony Gordon, and the idea of Rashford making a summer move to the Catalonian side is seemingly in jeopardy.
Scholes claims Arsenal would be a 'great move' for Rashford
Although it doesn't seem like the La Liga champions are interested in capturing Rashford in the long-term, this has not discouraged the Mancunian's entourage who believe their are a plethora of clubs interested even if the Spanish giants pull out of the deal.
According to the Daily Mail, a multitude of huge clubs, including Chelsea, Bayern Munich and Real Madrid, are among those his representatives expect to make offers in the upcoming transfer window.
However, United legend Paul Scholes believes the Premier League champions would be the best move, after they have shown interest in Rashford.
Speaking on The Good, The Bad & The Football podcast, Scholes said, "That would be a great move, a great move for both parties. I think Arsenal would be a great move for him and the club."
Scholes also went onto admit he doesn't want to see Rashford back at Old Trafford, nor does he think this is a likely scenario, even after Ruben Amorim's exit and Michael Carrick's subsequent appointment as interim and now permanent manager.
"No, it very rarely happens, a big player like that going to a big club and then coming back," he said.
"They very rarely come back and I don’t think United will really want him back."
Could Rashford return under Carrick?
Even though Scholes feels it is highly unlikely that Rashford will make a return to Manchester, the question will be asked now it seems unlikely his loan move is going to be made permanent.
A successful move to another Premier League side would certainly divide the fanbase's opinion even further than what it already is, with their being certain outcomes that could completely sour the fans relationship with the attacker.
Under Michael Carrick, many players have had an upturn in form, somewhat saving their reputation as a Red Devil by the backend of the season. Diogo Dalot and Luke Shaw are prime examples of players who seemed to be in their final season at the club, but have now been trusted to take their side into next season.
Whatever decision Rashford makes, it is likely going to be the most important of his career. The 28-year-old is not getting any younger and will be hoping to shine on the biggest stages of world football throughout his prime years, and choosing the right club will be vital in doing so.
