Ryan Giggs identifies a Premier League talent costing £70M, believing he possesses the perfect "Man United player" qualities for the club's midfield revamp.
After Manchester United's success last summer in the transfer window to address their misfiring forward line, the club are now poised to shift their focus to the next stage of the squad's rebuild.
The midfield is set to see a host of changes, following the announcement from Casemiro that he will be leaving the club at the end of this season, with the futures of both Bruno Fernandes and Manuel Ugarte also not being certain.
Following Michael Carrick's interim appointment in January, Kobbie Mainoo has cemented himself as a starter in the side going forward, after seeing himself be frozen out by former head coach Rúben Amorim, with a potential loan move away in the winter transfer window being rumoured.
With Manchester United reportedly looking to sign at least two midfielders in the summer, a long list of players have been linked with moves to Old Trafford, but club legend Ryan Giggs has singled out one Premier League star whom he believes his former club should pursue at the end of the season.
Ryan Giggs urges Man Utd to sign Adam Wharton
Adam Wharton's stock this season has skyrocketed after impressing for Crystal Palace in the league, with rumours of a move to a top-six club persisting throughout the 2025/26 campaign.
While rumours linking Nottingham Forest's Elliot Anderson to Manchester United in the summer also exist, it is expected that Man Utd will only sign one big-money midfielder, and Ryan Giggs believes that Wharton is the right man for United's midfield.
Speaking on Webby & O'Neill, he said, "It looks like Mainoo is going to stay, Casemiro is going to go, Ugarte is going to go, and we need to strengthen midfield without a shadow of a doubt.
"I always like a left-footer in the team, so I wouldn’t argue with Wharton, I think he looks, to me, like a Man United player.
"Somebody who can handle the ball, passes forward, runs forward, Premier League experience, all of them have got Premier League experience, so I wouldn’t be against that."
Giggs' stance on Man Utd's next manager
Despite making it clear when he joined the side that he would only be here until the end of this season, Michael Carrick's near miraculous work to propel Manchester United into third place in the league has caused many to believe that the former United midfielder is the right man to lead the side next season.
After winning seven of his opening ten games, losing just once against Newcastle, United now find themselves as one of the favourites to secure Champions League football next season, and will make the club a much more attractive destination for the likes of Wharton.
On who should be the head coach going into next season, Giggs was clear that his former teammate is the right man for the job.
"The turnaround has been amazing. I think we were all like, well, I was, ‘we need seven or eight players’, to now maybe needing three or four in the summer, which is more achievable than seven or eight players.
"There’s no… I can’t see past Michael at the moment, I just can’t.
"I think he’s brought a calmness, I think he’ll bring in Man United players because he knows the club.
"Give him time, I think he goes from strength to strength."
