Manchester United reignites pursuit of midfield target Elliot Anderson this week. Talks aim to secure the sought-after talent before his decision solidifies.

Who will Man Utd's first summer signing be...? 🇨🇲👀

Manchester United's midfield hunt has seen the club decide that Nottingham Forest star Elliot Anderson is their top target this summer.

Having spent over £200 million on a new frontline last summer, the club are focusing on bringing in new midfield talent, with Casemiro set to depart and Manuel Ugarte linked with sides in Turkey and Italy.

As previously reported by Roundtable, although Manchester City are currently seen as favourites for Anderson due to their proactive negotiations late last year, United are still firmly in the race.

Anderson's decision on who he will play for next season is far from finalised, with United hoping for clarity before the 2026 World Cup kicks off in June.

Sources: United to hold fresh Anderson talks

With United currently behind City in the race for Anderson, they have legwork to make up.

Roundtable understands that Michael Carrick's club are due to hold fresh talks with the England international's representatives this week via intermediaries as they continue to explore the possibility of securing his signature at Old Trafford.

It has been reported elsewhere that, amid Anderson's ever-increasing vein of form and skillset, Forest now see him as a player worth north of £100 million.

£100 million has been the going rate for high-level midfielders across the last few seasons, with the likes of Declan Rice, Enzo Fernandez, and Moisés Caicedo all transfering within the Premier League for nine figures.

United announce new Maguire contract

While United continue to push for Anderson as an import, they have also been working on tying down some of their current crop to new contracts.

While a new deal for Kobbie Mainoo remains in the works and is expected to be finalised before the end of the season, the club announced on Tuesday morning that Harry Maguire had signed a one-year extension.

The new contract is on reduced terms compared to his previous £190,000-a-week deal and will last for one further season, although the club has also retained the right to extend it by a further 12 months should they wish.

Maguire's time at United has been one of ups and downs, but under Carrick, he has been phenomenal. Maguire is also known to be a very valuable member of the squad's leadership team and often takes Academy players under his wing in the first team.

“Representing Manchester United is the ultimate honour," the United defender said. "It is a responsibility that makes myself and my family proud every single day.

“I am delighted to extend my journey at this incredible club to at least eight seasons and continue to play in front of our special supporters to create more amazing moments together.

“You can feel the ambition and potential of this exciting squad. The determination throughout the whole club to fight for major trophies is clear for everyone to see, and I am confident that our best moments together remain ahead of us.”
