With the summer transfer window approaching, Manchester United are set to have a busy period ahead of the new season.

A deal for Atalanta midfielder Ederson has already been agreed and the Reds are also looking to add another two midfielders to the squad afterwards.

West Ham star Matheus Fernandes is one of the standout options available while Bournemouth's Alex Scott is also appreciated.

United will also be looking to strengthen other areas of Michael Carrick's squad and reports suggest left-back could be one of the positions looked at.

Luke Shaw started all 38 games in the Premier League last season but with the Reds back in European competition next term, United cannot rely on him to play twice a week.

Reports have begun to suggest that Lewis Hall is a player United are considering after he missed the World Cup squad following a poor end to the season with Newcastle.

Hall, 21, is considered one of the most talented young full-backs in Europe right now and could cost around £50 million this summer.

The defender has four England caps in his career so far and previously spoke on how he wanted to learn from Luke Shaw with the Three Lions.

Speaking in 2024, the Newcastle star explained: “I like to learn from other people who have been in the squad for a while.

"Someone like Luke Shaw, who I’ve watched play for England a lot and I like a lot of the things he does in his game and hopefully I can take parts of his game into mine and one day play regularly for England.”  

Shaw was controversially not picked for the England squad this summer either, but Hall could get the chance to work with the experienced left-back if he decides to move to Old Trafford.

United's decision to pursue a left-back could mean that Patrick Dorgu is set for more games as a winger next season, and that will split opinion among supporters.

Despite scoring some impressive goals last term, Dorgu doesn't always look comfortable in the frontline and we are yet to see how he would perform as an overlapping full-back in a back four formation.

It could be a change that unlocks the best of the Danish international, however, there is no denying that Hall would be a superb signing for the short and long term.

The Newcastle star has also previously played in midfield before. "A lot of my game has been developed at left-back but I think I could play in midfield if I needed to,” he added.

That would be another bonus to United if they were sign him this summer.
