After a rapid £85 million recruitment blitz, Michael Carrick’s side has cooled transfer activity for now to reassess transfer plans.
Just over a week ago, Manchester United's transfer window was seemingly in a dark place. No official signings, lost out on Mateus Fernandes, Sandro Tonali and Elliot Anderson and little to no movement on signings.
Fast forward to now, the club have transformed their summer with a frenzy of signings kick-started by the £50 million move for Andrey Santos from Chelsea.
Soon after, Karl Darlow was brought in as the deputy to Senne Lemmens due to the impending departure of Altay Bayindir.
Then the transfer that surprised everyone. The club went from David Ornstein revealing the Red Devils had activated the £35 million release clause of Youri Tielemans to the club announcing the deal within 24 hours.
With more deals on the agenda, fans will be hoping the club can continue the momentum.
United hit "pause" on transfers
Despite the departures of Casemiro, Jadon Sancho and Tyrell Malacia on free transfers, the only official sale for the club has been Napoli activating the £38 million buy clause in their loan deal for Rasmus Hojlund.
It's no surprise that, according to Samuel Luckhurst, Michael Carrick's side may cool transfer activity for now to reassess their plans, with the hope of raising money to fund more deals.
Marcus Rashford remains the most viable sale in the club's view, but INEOS are adamant they will not send the Englishman on another season-long loan like Andre Onana.
Other reports have suggested that the likes of Lisandro Martinez or Noussair Mazraoui could be surprise departures. Joshua Zirkzee is another player facing an uncertain future and could return to Serie A.
What else do the club need?
While reports may suggest the Red Devils may hit pause on deals for now, the club will still be working on potential deals for another midfielder. It was refreshing to see the club work on multiple deals at once, so you would expect the club to work on incomings and outgoings all at once.
With the current midfield signings, a deal for Joao Gomes may appear to be unlikely, as the club would look for a more marquee signing, which could be Manu Kone.
The Frenchman could cost around £50 million, and that would mean only £135 million spent on midfielders. Therefore, a marquee left-back signing to compete with Luke Shaw could be an option, with Lewis Hall being linked in the past.
The Red Devils may even sneak in a back-up striker should Zirkzee leave or another winger if Rashford were to leave.
