Intermediaries have alerted the Magpies to the England international's availability as AC Milan looks to cash in on the Scudetto-winning centre-back before his contract expires.
Newcastle United have reportedly been approached over the possibility of signing AC Milan defender Fikayo Tomori, with intermediaries making the England international available ahead of the January transfer window.
Intermediaries have contacted Newcastle regarding the 28-year-old centre-back, as AC Milan consider their options with Tomori's contract approaching its expiry in June 2027. The Italian club are reportedly prepared to consider a January departure rather than risk losing the defender for nothing next summer.
The development could provide Newcastle with an opportunity to strengthen their defensive options as Matthias Jaissle continues to assess his squad and plan for future recruitment.
However, there is currently no confirmation that Newcastle have made an offer or opened formal negotiations with Milan over a potential transfer.
AC Milan's Changing Stance On Tomori
Tomori's situation at the San Siro has changed considerably in recent months. The defender was reportedly made available for transfer during the summer as Milan reshaped their defensive options under head coach Ruben Amorim.
Despite attracting interest from several clubs, a move failed to materialise before the transfer deadline. Tomori was subsequently reintegrated into Milan's squad, although he had yet to feature in a competitive match during the campaign at the time of Goal's September report.
The Italian club's reported willingness to consider a January departure could now reopen the door for interested Premier League sides.
For Milan, the prospect of selling Tomori midway through the season could provide an opportunity to secure a transfer fee before his contract expires. For Newcastle, it could represent a chance to recruit an experienced defender without committing to a lengthy negotiation over a player whose future at the club remains uncertain.
Nevertheless, any potential agreement would depend on Milan's valuation, Tomori's own preferences and whether Newcastle believe he fits their recruitment plans.
Why Newcastle Could Consider A Move
Newcastle's defensive options have been an important consideration as the club plans for the future. Fabian Schär and Dan Burn are experienced members of the squad, while Sven Botman and Malick Thiaw provide further options at centre-back.
However, maintaining depth in that position is essential for a club competing across multiple competitions. Injuries, suspensions and fixture congestion can quickly expose a lack of reliable alternatives, making experienced defensive recruits an attractive proposition.
Tomori would bring familiarity with English football, having developed at Chelsea before establishing himself in Italy. His pace and ability to defend space behind the defensive line could also suit a team looking to maintain an aggressive defensive approach.
The 28-year-old has previously demonstrated his quality at AC Milan, helping the club win the Serie A title in 2022. He has also accumulated considerable experience in domestic and European competition.
There would, however, be questions to consider. Newcastle would need to assess his current form, match fitness and suitability for Jaissle's tactical approach before deciding whether a transfer represents good value.
Tomori's contract situation could nevertheless make the opportunity worth exploring, especially if Milan are prepared to negotiate a reasonable fee.
For now, there is no confirmed agreement between Newcastle and AC Milan, and the Magpies have not publicly announced an intention to sign the defender.
The coming months should provide greater clarity over whether Newcastle turn the reported approach into a formal pursuit.
